Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Checkpoint Demo
1024 x 768, 32 Bit

AMD 1.4GHz Athlon
EPoX 8KHA+ (VIA KT-266A)
Asus V7100Pro (GeForce2 MX-400)
256MB Crucial PC2100, CL=2-2-2

CPU Speed
Base: 1400MHz (10.5 x 133 MHz)
Overclocked: 1522MHz (10.5 x 145 MHz)

Video Speed
Base: GPU/Mem = 200/200 MHz
Overclocked: GPU/Mem = 230/250 MHz

Frames per Second (fps) - Average
Base System - 51.0
CPU OC - 52.3
Video OC - 58.4
CPU and Video OC - 66.0

Conclusions
Increasing my CPU to 1522MHz without changing my video card speed only yielded an additional 1.3 fps. This proves that my system is GPU limited and it would make little difference if my CPU was at 20GHz or greater.

By just overclocking my video card and leaving the CPU at its base speed, I gained 7.4 fps.

My CPU running at 1522MHz has a more dramatic affect on game speed with the video card overclocked. Here I get an another 7.6 for a total 15 fps over the base system.

definately get a new video card.. i forgot what thread it was, but i think someone upgraded from a gf2 (either a mx or was it a gts) to a gf4, and basically doubled his 3dmark2001se scores.. like from 4400 to 9000+..

If you don't have the cash for the Geforce 4 Ti4400 or 4600, get a Geforce 3 Ti 200, or wait about 2 weeks for the Geforce 4 Ti200

I'm going to a compter show on the 19th and don't know if there will be any GF4-Ti4200 there by then. If not, I should be able to pick up the ASUS V8200T2 Pure GeForce3 Ti200 for 130.00 USD.

I makes me laugh to think how I wanted a faster CPU but it made little difference due to my slow GF-2MX video card.

Thanks Guys, Oli
