theyre pretty cheap but i noticed they have "compatible" cartidges for almost nothing, like $18. are those any good. i was a little worried by some of the feedback, people claiming they put out spots later on, but some people said they were really good. arent there also places like cartidgeworld that refill? what do you guys do when you need a new printer cartridge

2280DW here, I buy from SwiftInk.com

so they charge $27 for a tn-450 compatible cartridge. do you get 2600 pages out of it? have you ever had a problem like powder coming out of a cartridge?

also i just got my printer a few months ago and you have a newer version, do you know what the difference is?

I'm still on my first replacement. I haven't had any powder issues. I'm still on page 1400ish, haven't really reached 2600 yet.

The new version is that it's a multifunction printer, otherwise it's pretty similar.

I have tried multiple remanufactured "super-cheap" cartridges with my Brother lasers. (2070 and 2140, not a 22xx series, though) and have never been happy. They always end up spewing too much toner and causing streaks.

The $12 cartridges in my Brother color (HL-3040CN) work fine, so I'll probably be ordering another round from that company for my 2070 and giving that a shot before i give up and start buying factory originals again.

I've never tried refilling. I understand the concept but I'm scared to death of spilling something.

I have the same printer as you, but are still using the toner that came with the printer. So I'll just post this random info, so I can follow this thread to see the answers. 🙂

i just got the printer myself and the original cartridge is starting to blink on me. is the cartridge that came with it a full tn-420 or is it just a sample cartridge has makes fewer than 1600 copies. ive printed out a lot but probably not 1600

The cartridge with the printer is just a starter toner, thus limited copies. You'll need to buy a full one to replace it. You can also get a gear kit to modify the starter cartridge to make it a regular toner and then refill with new toner ink.

Yep, a starter rated for 700 pages. I bought a 2 pack of these recently for the 7360N, and so far it works fine.

meritline is dirt cheap--$27 for a two pack of tn 450 compatibles. how many copies have you made so far? do you think you will really get 2600 and is print quality ok?

Print quality is fine for what I've seen so far, but I don't know how many pages I'll get. I have used their Brother compatible inket cartridges for a few years now, and they have been fine also.

I bought a Linkyo TN450 replacement for my 2270DW when they were on sale for like $15. A few weeks ago the Newegg had the the Rosewill TN450 for $12.50 so I also picked those up. Hopefully they are good. Do you guys keep the original starter toner to convert to a TN450 or just recycle to get the Staples Rewards?

We have some 2270DWs at work, and use refilled cartridges from a client (a cartridge world franchise, actually) almost exclusively. They do tend to give out earlier than the official rated page yield, but the price difference between the refills and the brother manufactured toners is big enough that the refills could crap out after about 1500 pages and we'd still be saving money.

Print quality is fine right up until its catastrophically not 🙂 Sometimes a good shake clears it up for another few hundred pages.

i waited too long to get a refill and now i dont have time to mail order and so i have to go buy one locally. so i called up cartridge world and they said they sell the tn 450 compatible cartridge for 44.95 but i have to bring in my old tn 420 cartridge and give it to them. does that sound right and if i have to give them an old cartridge thats never been refilled is that even a good deal for me? if you have to give them $45 and an old cartridge that they can refill for $5 that sounds like a good deal for them and a bad deal for me. are you supposed to have to give cartridge world your old cartridge or are they trying to give me the ole mumbai shaft just cuz i told them i had an old cartridge
