ok so today my Zen Xtra finially died after almost 2 years of faithfull service, about 5 months ago it suffered that headphone pin issue, which i caused cause im an idiot, i successfully jurry riged it to keep working for almost 6 months

well today it finally died and theres nothing i can do to fix it again so i need a new player of some kind

its needs to hold at least 30 gigs, be no bigger then the Zen Xtra was, have good SQ and software to do with it

i liked now the zen had its buttons on the side of the player and not on the face of it, it made it extreamly easy to operate the player without looking at itm so i coudl leave it in my pocket and change volume and tracks without ever taking it out, it seems as tho unless i get another xtra that having that will be somewhat impossiable

seeing as i know jack about the new generations of these things what do you peopel suggest

Want
30 or more gigs
good SQ
reletivily Small - at least no bigger then the zen xtra
good software/useability
at least 12 hour bat life

dont really care about
anything made by apple
color screen
any video functions

that being said what do you suggest i get, trying to keep it under 300$ if possiable

This generation of players with the higher storage volumes pretty much all feature color screens, what the fvck do you want me to do, offer 30 1 gigers?

i dont think he can read

Assumption is that you don't want certain features so as to cut down on cost. Dunno, then maybe the 40gb zen xtra

Once you go higher on the storage volumn, the color screens pretty much come with the territory. Kind of like asking for a Mercedes with roll-windows and no AC

THose are previous generation but yeah. How do you feel about a remote? SOme people like them and others really ahte them. Its another thing in your pockets/on you and another set of wires.

Edit: Would you ever consider a 20 gig? Thats where most of the non color players are and they're pretty much all under 300.

40gb m3 is $300 on ebay... If you could deal with only having 20gb the Karma's as low as $150ish these days, great sq & gapless playback

I have the 20gig M3 and the remote is kind of a hassle sometimes. I usually just keep the player on random play and keep the remote in my backpack. Makes manually switching songs a pain but keeps the amount of junk in my pockets to a minimum.

Eh just saw it was ~500 bucks. In any case why not just get a used version of the one you already had. You'd save dough
and get something you already know you like.

iAudio X5

I just ordered one, it'll be here tomorrow. I'll put up a review then. From the specs and the chatter on the iAudiophile forums this player looks to have amazing SQ though.

This will run a little more than your budget for the 30GB version, but you can get one with a 35 hour battery life that is the same size and shape as a 60GB iPod Photo.
