Currently happy with my Asus A7V-266-E that has 4 x IDE 100 ports and 4 x IDE 100/RAID ports.
Onboard audio, which I dont use (and would rather not have)
The raid is disabled since it corrupted my data
2 IBM Deskstar 120 GXP (80GB)
1 IBM Deskstar 30 GXP (30GB)
1 IBM Deskstar 20 GB something.. 🙂
Pioneer DVD 106S DVD-ROM
ASUS 40X CDR/RW/DVD
Gainward Geforce 4 4600 Ultra 750XP
2 x unnamed DDR PC266 RAM (CL 2.5 probably)
AMD AThlon XP 1800+
Creative Labs Audigy Gamer
3COM FastEtherlink XL PCI NIC

-

So, I'm looking for a motherboard that lets me hook up.

- Fast CPU (P4 or AMD, >2.5GHz)
- 512 or 768MB of very fast RAM
- High Performance Motherboard with OverClocking options AND Stability (ASUS..?)
- Onboard Gigabit Ethernet perhaps?
- 5+ PCI Slots
- AGP 3.0
- USB 2.0
- Firewire (optional)
- Support for 5+ IDE Devices. and maybe RAID.
(Figure i'll go for 2 or 3 160GB IDE drives..)

Any suggestions?
A good heatsink/fan combo would be nice as well, unless I should go for Water Cooling(?)

Regards

Asus P4PE is the best board out now. It has everything on the list except AGP 3.0...which is worthless.

I'm using an MSI KT-3 Ultra2-BR my hsf is a Thermaltake Dragon Orb 3 (with a separate speed control switch to keep the fan speed down some.)

I've been delighted with that motherboard. It overclocks well, has raid and most importantly it supports the 166Mhz (333ddr) frontside bus on the new Athlons. It also has the usb 2.0 that you want although the AGP is only 2.0 (3.0 is BADLY overrated).

They have em on newegg for like $100-120.

Epox KT400 board. Newegg.com has it for $125 shipped. Has raid, serial ata, USB2.0, 6ch sound, ethernet, etc... And should overclock like a champ

like marlin said, either the epox 8k9a, or my board of choice the msi kt4 ultra (fisr version which adds sata, raid, gigabit lan, and firewire)

in the p4 arena, i'd look at the albatron 845pe board, seems to overclock like a beast

in terms of cooling, if you're gonna spend that much on your sys anyway, get a case designed for water cooling and stick a peltier under it
total cost for a water cooled peltier setup is steep (atleast 400-500 dollars) but you can get subzero temps at an almost silent noise level
