I didn't know where else to post it, so I thought I'd post it here. I need a new ISP! I can't use just any ISP since I live about 1-2 miles out of the range for DSL, and as far as I know, there are no cable modem ISP's available in my area either.

I was using fastpoint (www.fastpoint.net) for the past year. Now, they want to raise our rate to $225/month for residentual use. As if $125/month wasn't already a ripoff for this service!

It's 144 kbit. Do you think that maybe I can get quad ISDN, 256 kbit? Or maybe just dual ISDN? What kind of service can I / should I get?

What about satellite service? Anyone have any good references?

Please email me tambrus@yahoo.com if you do...I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks,

Tibor

The reviews of the sat service have been dismal, the more you use it the more they charge you, then they slow down or choke your d/l speeds,as I understand it.It is way cheaper than the figs you posted.(DirectPc.com)ISDN is not cheap, and now,its not all that fast.Beats a dial up though.Call around and ask about fractional T1's,T1's,but your best bet might be direct pc.Do not buy the dish from them,as there are beau coup deals on thebay,as well as news groups. My bud has one he will more than gladly sell you,cheap.Dig. cable and adsl came over us like a velvet blanket.Email me if you feel the need...............Later.............SD...

Cool thanks guys.

I'll take a look at the directpc.com and t1 rates around my area, and I'll take a look around at dslreports.com. Thanks,

Tibor

Look around locally for wireless access. Can be pretty cheap monthly but the equipment is damned expensive...

Wireless, but what speed? I don't want to have my house hooked up to a 'wireless' 56k modem...would be good for a laptop tho :)

I've heard of 1+ mbit wireless connections...but none in my area, at least not yet :(

Anyway, I'll look around.

Thanks,

Tibor
