but could I still buy a SATA drive and use adapters to make it work with my computer, or would I have to buy a SATA pci controller.

Thanks.

you're better off with a pci sata controller in my opinion, though I guess you could use the adapter for a dvd-r down the line.

why even go to SATA now? i would save money now for a total upgrade to a mobo with SATA capability. it's not like you'll get too significant of a performance boost

I wouldn't be doing it for the performance boost, but rather for the future, since sometime later this year I will probably overhaul my system.

I dunno..I might just stick it out until then.

IMHO don't waste your money on a sata controller.......

Access time is everything, you're not gaining much from a higher transfer rate. Just save your money for a new motherboard. Go to the hot deal forum or your own personal favorite hot deal site. Every other day the have deals for large hard drives for very little money.

Ill just wait.

Yes, I realize that. I never thought that by going with SATA I was to experience great performance, I just thought that why bother with a PATA drive when I am going to upgrade sometime later this year (hopefully).
