I need a new Hard Drive!!

I have been slowing acquiring parts for a new computer. And its time to buy a new hard drive. I need some good suggestions on what to buy. I don't need a lot of space but I do need good speed. My current specs for the computer I am building are:

Core 2 Duo E6300 (overclocking it when its all built and ready)
ASUS P5B Deluxe
G.Skill 2GB (1GB x 2) DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) 4-4-4-12
eVGA 8800GTS

I do play games a lot. Including BF2, CSS, and hoping to play some much higher games my current computer can not handle. I was thinking about putting 2 drives in a raid 0 config or getting a single small raptor for games and OS. I just want to try to get the best I can on a lower budget. As you can see in the above config I saved on the cpu to get a better gfx card cause of budget of course. I'm not sure what the best way to go is cause I am not too knowledgeable when it comes to Hard Drives. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why mess around? Just get a big old SATA HD(the bigger the better) and run with that. If you are a noob you aren't gonna wanna mess around with RAID configs and all that. 😉

Nice system BTW. 🙂

I'm no noob. Just don't know how to best select a hard drive. I can set up RAID no problem. 640GB is overkill for me. I don't need even close to that amount of space. I was thinking some type of dual 160GB or dual 200GB raid 0 system or of course the single Raptor 74GB. Really just looking for the best performance on a small budget.

Forget Raid0 since the performance gains are negligible and you double the chance for drive failure. A $95 320GB 7200.10 or WD3200KS is a smart choice.

fujitsu max series 15K u320 scsi 🙂 🙂 with a u160 card and you are good to go, then put in a 7200.10 seagate and you have the winnar 🙂

if you want to stay sata/ide then i would get a 16MB cache 74GB raptor and a 7200.10 seagate in whatever size you want. more than enough for quite sometime 🙂
