I need a new game

I have been looking for a new computer game distraction. I can't seem to find any that I really like.

You know how NetFlix suggests movies based upon other movies you liked. I want to use the AT braintrust of processing power to do the same thing.

My favorites:
Stronghold 1 and Crusader
Age of Empires, Age of Kings
Age of Mythology
Lords of Magic
Diablo II
Lords of the Realm II
Age of Empires III
SimCity 1, 2, although the newest ones have been was bloatware that worked like doodoo

I am a casual gamer, so 2 hours a week of play time would be considered a lot. I don't like games that take hundreds of hours to master. I also don't like online games because all the 13 year olds spend 40 hours a week playing the game and then they are way better than me and I keep losing. I would rather play with the boring old computer.

Something wrong with Heroes 4?

Isn't that just another first person shooter. I have played counterstrike, BF2, Old Doom I and Castle Wolfenstien the first time around. I find these games stressful to play...especially online where some 13 year old is constantly kicking my @ss.

I think I tried Civ 1 or 2 once. It was a bit complex for a game that I was playing a couple of hours a week.

The Heroes of Might and Magic series seems like a possibility. I understand that they are turn based. Does that mean that battle is very slow and methodical, or is there an element of hack and slash like diablo games.

Rome Total War w/ Barbarian Invasion

Or the newer

Medieval 2 Total War.

And check out Company Of Heroes. It's a real-world-time strat.

Good WW2 RTS

I say good because once you start getting into the maps with tons of vehicles it really goes downhill to me. I didn't really care for MP either, but then I'ev never really cared for RTS MP in any game. I'm just not good against human opponents in RTS games.

I downloaded silverfall. It is pretty addictive. It is similar to Diablo in some respects. The free demo is keeping me happy for now.

Sacred - Similar to Diablo 2, hack & slash fest!

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Fantasy RTS with no base building but a good story (2 campaigns, 4 races)

Company of Heroes - 3D RTS based in WW2, good for quick games if that's what you want.

Rise of Nations

Also second the recommendations for Company of Heroes and Rome Total War/Medieval 2 Total War

Ummm, yes, it sucks balls!

For a real good game that was also sort of a sleeper, try Disciples 2.
You can get the collectors edition at Target for around 10 bucks. Its in the same section as the Oregon Trail and all those other bargain bin titles that arent actually in a bin.
(On the other end of the aisle, away from the expensive, blockbuster games.)

RISE OF NATIONS + EXPANSION

RISE OF NATIONS: RISE OF LEGENDS

You will LOVE these games if you like to play strategy and the computer AI is fun too.

I think I am just going to start playing game demos. I get bored of them within 5 or 6 hours anyway. I can save lots of money if I just try all these games in demo form. I think I will try the demos for:

Company of Heroes
Heroes of Might and Magic I-III
Rise of Nations

so I downloaded Company of Heroes. That game is freaking fantastic. I went through the demo and was amazed by the quality of the graphics and how well they ran on my merely adequate video card. I wonder how long the demo will keep me happy.

Second R:TW and Medieval 2:TW. Don't know if it's the addiction talking or just plain fun, but they are really good. Just don't bother going to Medieval 1 and Shogun if you've played Rome or Medieval 2: they look and play like ass compared to the new ones. M2 blows the graphics of all others out of the water.
