OK, I need a new game to play. I already have: HL2, Doom3, FEAR, Q4, UT2K4. (<--those are the types of games I most like) I still play DiabloII LOD from time to time as well. :)

I'm looking for something new...probably going to try Oblivion, though I'll probably have to play it with "no details" on my system. (2.2GHz AthlonXP/1GB ram/X800 Pro AGP)

Whatever game I get, the single player game is the most important factor. I do go online from time to time and find a server, but that's rare. Plus, my internet connection stinks.

Make some recommendations, please. Thanks!

Get the Mechwarrior4 Compilation and a twist-handle joystick. :) That's three full game missions totalling probably 150 individual missions (no I do not have the exact number memorized... yet. ) and you can concoct custom BattleMechs for yourself and your helpers, order them around, try different strategies... it has some replay value.

If you set the difficulty to Elite, I guarantee there will be missions that will make you throw stuff across the room and cuss

Oh, and it's like $20 and will run fine on non-cutting-edge systems :)

Hey buddy, nice to see you. :)

That's a good idea...something different...never played any of the Mechwarrior series before...or used a joystick since Atari. :p Recommendations for said twist-handle joystick?

I've been playing the Dungeon Siege series on my laptop, which is only slightly faster than your PC. Runs great, still looks pretty good. Decent fun. Not extremely involving though.

The fun part? I've been playing it at work. On a company laptop. :D

My Girlfriend picked up No-one Lives Forever 2 the other day for about US $6 and is really loving it.

It's pretty old, a bit comical and you may have played it. I'm thinking of getting a copy...

Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay ... great game. Cheap these days too, and while not all run-and-gun, there are parts of it that are.

I would high highly recommend Titan Quest, especailly since you've played some Diablo. Awesome SP game with a ton of replayability.

Oblivion IS my suggestion. However - depending on your resolution - you should get mid details at 10x7 IF you turn "grass" completely 'down' and "self shadows" - 'OFF'.

If you missed Chronicles of Riddick:EfBB, buy it. ;)

Guys I keep throwing this out there in "what game should I play" threads...

Darwinia

demo download...
http://www.darwinia.co.uk/downloads/index.html

full game is like $19.95. You can probably finish the game in a heavy weekend bender.

Someone PLEASE go download and play this so that I can get an "Amen!".

That list in the first post is almost an exact list of what I've knocked out in the last year.
Add Serious Sam II, and Far Cry to the mix.

American McGee's Scrapland is good for a fix now and then too. Oblivion rocked. Your machine will handle it too.

if you do get oblivion, know that the beginning is slooooooooooooow (i hated it), but once you get a few quests on the main story line... it's 10000x more interesting :D:D

Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition, can be had for $19.99. Includes the original campaign, plus both expansions. There are also TONS of user-created modules available online.

http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646371

Edit: I see that this also includes Kingmaker, which was another online only expansion pack released by Bioware/Atari. This is a steal at 20 bucks.

I'd also recommend this. Very similar to D2 but without the random map design.

Neverwinter Nights is a great game though a bit more story oriented than Titan Quest and D2. Knights of the Old Republic is another excellent game along the same lines as NWN (whether you're interested in Star Wars or not).

For joysticks, I have my fleet of four Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pros, so I haven't tried anything else for years  Look at Saitek's lineup perhaps? I did try a force-feedback Sidewinder and that got old, probably better off saving that extra money for  :D

You gotta play Condemned. It's a cool game, scary, different FPS kind of action using close combat rather than guns. Sweet graphics and good gameplay, you'll like it.

Seconded. I think I fired like 10 shots during the whole game. You actually get a bonus if you complete the game with melee weapons only.

I normally never play single player games but the Hitman series has always captivated me, especially Blood Money. Completely free to finish the mission however you want. Looks great, plays good, I would recommend it.

You guys are awesome; thanks!!! :)

I can't wait for the F.E.A.R. Extraction Point expansion pack to come out! Too bad it's forecasted for the end of this year...Christmas, probably, at a high price point. Feb before it's $25 and I buy it.

You know, I played the Darwinia demo (free DL a few months ago on Steam) and I really, really didn't like it! A bunch of little stick figures running around on a planet while you try and build stuff. It's like Rollercoaster Tycoon without any good graphics.

I did play the Shadowgrounds Demo and really liked it. It's old school graphics and gameplay, but it's right up my alley.

I've heard about the Chronicles of Riddick game. I need to check that out.

I read about Condemned some time back....sounds good!!

For the time being, I ordered Oblivion...should be here in a few days. I'm ready for a gaming bender.

Thanks again for ALL the suggestions; I'll probably buy most of'em. :)

Years ago, I played the free demo of that game...it came on the CD with the magazine (PC Gamer, I think) and I found it quirky. But that was a long time ago. The premise of the game interests me a lot. I may give it a try. Thanks. :)

I also didn't like the Darwinia demo, really not my cup of tea. I'm not normally into RPGs but I'm thinking of picking up Oblivion as I don't think I've seen a game garner so much praise on this forum since HL2.

Prey
HL2 Episode 1
SiN
Condemned
FarCry
Tribes Vengeance

I'm suggesting these all based on Single Player.

Edit: People who like Diablo2 are still playing Diablo2. Even Titan Quest really didn't add anything new to the formula. I think the next Diablo2 may be Hellgate: London. But only time will tell. There are older FPS games you may or may not be missing out on, but I decided to stop with only a few recent ones.
