Anyone from around Alexandria, VA area may know the bout we have had with rain in the last week or so. Well, last Sunday, I had my car parked along the side of the road, and water rose to level where my car flooded. I just got a call back from State Farm claims office and they want to give me $7600 for my car. It was a 99 Civic EX 5 speed with around 75000 miles on it.

I'm looking for a new car now, and would like some suggestions. Since I was pushed into this, I'm not sure what type of car I need right now. A car I was looking at in the future was a BMW M series or 3 series convertible. For now though I'd imagine my budget is around $5,000.

Of course another Civic or Accord would be a good choice.

Fun to drive, cheap, and reliable: late 90's Subaru. You can get a loaded Legacy GT in your price range; maybe not a 99, definitely a 97 though. AWD + 165HP H-4 + 5-speed :)

With all the flooding, you might as well buy a SUV w/ mod to raise the ground clearance to 5 feet.

Get one of the typical cars out there. Accord, Camry, Civic, Corolla. The new Camry is pretty hot.

I was a little worried about the flood cars in the area. I wouldn't mind another Honda, it treated me very well.
