Ok so i need a new motherboard as im going to move to Socket 775, and i have a 939 motherboard ATM, i would prefer one with 1333mhz fsb as it gives me a bigger choice of processors but its not essential, and one with overclocking capabilities, i want to spend as little as possible ($100 maximum)

Ok heres my current system

AMD 3800+ single core 939
Asus A8V-E se
4X512MB corsair value RAM 400mhz
Sapphire X1950GT
Audigy 2ZS

Proposed upgrade
Core 2duo processor e.g e6600 or e6550
DDR2 RAM probably 667mhz
Nvidia 7950GX2 or 8800gts 320mb

Im thinking of just getting an Opty 170 from ebay and overclocking it, problem is that my motherboard doesnt list if it supports opteron processors but if both the processor and the motherboard are socket 939 it should work right?

It'll work, but I wouldn't put any more money in obsolete platforms if I were you.

Pick up an eVGA 650i Ultra, an E6550, 2 or 4GB of Crucial Ballistix (or whatever is on sale for ~$60), and an 8800GTS.

im not going to spend alot on upgrades ATM because it will be a waste, Crysis will eat the 8800gtx for breakfast @DX10, so im waiting for the next line of graphics chips to be released before i put serious money down for a new rig

abit IP35-E can often be found ~$70 & is a very good board.
There's a rather large thread here about it.

Then keep your video card for now, and pick up the other things I mentioned.

If you're willing to spend a little bit more, I'd pick up a Xeon X3210.

Hey,

You need to look at the new Biostar TF 560a2+ board. For a non SLI setup this board is topnotch. great OC'er and very inexpensive @ less than $70.00 shipped.
There is a great review on this forum. check the " hot deals section". Good Luck.

I think the OP wanted to go Intel, and that board is for AMD.
