Hello I'm currently in a situation where my education is fully paid for if I choose a masters degree program. I've alway like writing and figured I'd start there. The problem is I don't know what career to choose from in the vast array of available occupations in the writing and journalist field. I enjoy writing opinions and experiences which leads me to believe I would be a good investigative journalist or perhaps a columnist. I guessed I figured I'd ask you guys rather than pay for some career counselor who would probably push me in the wrong direction. I'll probably be attending University of Arizona and it has to be a masters degree program.

I'm just not sure if I want to be a novelist. I need something a little more stable ya know. I've actually always wanted to write for TIME or National Geographic.

A master's degree in jounalisim would open up many opportunities for stable writing jobs, including newspapers, magazines, or working in the public relations departments of many companies writing company newletters, brochures, etc.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a good place to start in finding out what jobs are available under any field of study. Most universtiy career centers not only have this book but tons of other books offering a weath of information.
