I need a laptop

Want to play games (WoW for sure, and new ones too --so need DX10). Want quality, not some unheard of brand. Needs 4 gigs ram (I want it to last 4 years).

So any recommendations?

With 4GB, get Vista 64 if you don't mind not being able to run GameTap.

I'd wait a couple of months and ask this again, what's available and sensible in late June - early July could be quite different from today.

Yeah, I'm looking at the Alienware's m15x right now. I'll probably buy June/July or possibly early August. I'm not interested in "gametap."

Any new processor/GPU mobile stuff coming out in the next few months?

I don't know of anything better than the 8800M GTX yet, but since that's what you need you can at least hope that the price will drop.

I just looked at the Alienware site out of curiosity and currently a 4 GB / 2.5 GHz / 8800M GTX system goes for $2,800.

I customized an m15x for $2299. 4GB/ third processor w/ 6mb cache / 8700. 8800 is an extra $400, and unless I get some insane student discount, I'll stay away. How much better can it really be?

Will Alienware have it's own version of Clevo M860TU? The M860TU looks good only Xotic PC and other unpopular sellers are going to sell it.

Ask this question again towards the middle-end of July and we can give a much more accurate answer. Unless you're willing to buy a laptop now.

Especially since a whole new chipset from Intel is going to arrive in June, no one can configure you something now that you should buy in August.

And the 8800m GTX is worth the extra $400 over an 8700m GT.

^I'll bump this thread in June, then 🙂 I just read about Montevia and it's DDR3 and I'm happy to wait as much as possible until august.
