I need a job title

I work for a small-ish company that isn't very big on job titles unless you have a client facing position. So I don't really have an official job title. When I applied it was just for an 'IT Position'. I've been here for a number of years and haven't really cared at all but as the company faces some financial....challenges I have become a bit more away of this lack.

I am not really sure the best fit. My boss does the admin overhead stuff, Outlook, Citrix and backup nitty gritty but I do everything else. I administer and write report and database queries for the ERP* system, I built and maintain the Win7 Embedded image (Complete with custom shells) that goes into many of our products, I administer the network, AV, hardware firewall, and AD. We contract out most of the Helpdesk stuff although I do take care of that as well when I have time.

I worry that Network Administrator might cut out the ERP work I do. (ERP is pretty big in SE Michigan). None of those jobs mention anything about Network in their job titles but do mention 'IT' and 'Systems' and most of those jobs are run by non-techy people who might not get how vague and general IT job titles tend to be

So I am thinking IT Systems Analyst? Still vague but I think that would cover the ERP while people more in the field would get that job titles in IT are all over the place

I would put Network Administrator/Systems Analyst as a title on your resume and then maybe in the responsibilities section, delineate your responsibilities in each area.

Then the title doesn't really matter. You get to put a list of accomplishments below your title.

Not true.

The HR morons don't necessarily read anything other than job title. Some don't even bother reading past your most recent job title.

I hate HR people.

Thats why I care. Too many just use it either automatically or manually as a keyword filter

Yea, I would either do both systems analyst & network admin, or I'd pick one of the two. I'd say most likely, it will depend on where you will apply. If you apply for an analyst job, use systems analyst as your title. If you apply for an admin job, use network admin as your title. Otherwise, if it's just a title to have on your profile somewhere, I'd go with a dual title...
