I know this is a stupid question, but I need a job fast. And nothing is really working out. I applied to a few places in the mall but they seem to be taking their sweet time hiring people (like a month of drawn out group interviews and such).

Does anyone have any ideas where I can go? I was thinking another temp place, but one place already screwed me over (wouldn't give me any longer term work than one day at a time, and not even on a consistant basis). Would a smaller shop or something give me a job quicker?

Since you want a job really soon... and if you dont mind being a burger flipper... In N out all over LA is pretty good for a temp job. They pay you $8 starting and give you a raise after a month or something like that... not sure. Good luck though... getting hired right in the middle of summer maybe a little difficult.

First of all, what field of work are you even talking about!?! Second, if you need a job that quickly and are that desperate for money, I'm sure you can find work at Walmart or McDoodles. You might have to suck it up a bit, but I but they are hiring.

Just go hang out on a street corner and wait for some dude to ask if you are "working".

Say yes and get in his car. The rest will work itself out.

Like I said, I have been applying at such places, but its taking weeks because 1)They wait until they get a certain number of applicants 2) then they schedule a group interview, then 3) they take another week to call back and then another wait for the individual interview.

I'm willing to do pretty much anything. I have a college degree, but have been unsuccessful in finding most career related jobs. And even when I apply to secretarial type jobs, most places give me the run around and then finally tell me to go away because they think I'm going to leave them the first chance I get.

Tried the banks? Those guys are always hiring... you will get the same waiting period but i don't think they'll give you the runaround. The different Fry's Electronics around LA are also hiring.

What's your degree in?

and what kind of work are you best suited for? As far as temp agencies try Apple One. They're big and fairly well managed.

Does the college you graduated from have a career center? They might be able to find/locate something for you. Otherwise I would apply at a couple of temp. agencies first, then apply everywhere else you can think of where you would be willing to work.

as long as you don't say this:

them: "I would like a Big Mac Meal"

you: "Would you like to overclock your order?"

(this is my last day at my current job--moving to go to grad school--will be needing a job soon, so i will be in the same boat)

LOOK IN the NEWSPAPER...

i find that delivery drivers usually make good money... you get paid for mileage and hourly.
the thing is that you want to do those warehouse type deliveries...for auto parts etc....it's hecka laid back and you only do like a few deliveries a day and you can take your time...I mean really take your time....to the max.

Good luck...

places not to apply...
apple's assembly line unit
state jobs...(it'll take forever to get a job...esp. cali)
CUTCO... NEVER GO TO ANYTHING THAT HAS CUTCO/VECTOR/ALCAS...!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help. I went to Appleone originally (the one in Westwood) and the person I was assigned to gave me some BS about me being a hot applicant and them wanting to send me out to as many places as possible for their sake. At first that was a compliment, but then I realized that meant that they wouldn't give me even 3 day assignments, instead she made me call her at 8am every morning, and some days she had jobs and most days she didn't have any for me.

I'm in west LA right now. I run through all the internet search engines, but I've pretty much lost all faith in that because 99% of them (this is a literal percentage) don't even reply. Craigslist is okay, but lots of the jobs require experience, which I don't really have any experience besides that of my parents business (food service, and I don't want to go back and work there for the rest of my life). My degree is in International Business, which is basically the same as regular business.

Uh yeah, the career center at Pepperdine is great. Its run by this one chick that couldn't get a job so Pepperdine gave her that one. Target and Abercrombie appear at our career fairs, oh that and the Navy and the rest of the armed forces. She prints out the job postings from Monster.
