I Need a HS/F!

I'm looking to get away from my stock AMD HS/F. I've got a DFI Ultra-D in a CoolerMaster WaveMaster case. I usually don't over clock (I'll raise a voltage here and there, but that's usually it), but I want something to keep the CPU cool. Can anyone give me any recommendations?

What's your idle and full load temps? If they're anything like mine (I'm on stock as well), you really don't have to replace the sink unless it's broken. I'm idling at 28C and full loading for 3 hours at 43C. I'm only using 2500RPM on my CPU fan and 1000RPM on my 120 mm exhaust.

The stock HSF isn't a total disaster, but he may want a more silent solution... In that case I'd advise you one of ThermalRight's heatsinks (XP-90, XP-120, SI-120) and mount a very silent Nexus or Panaflo fan on that... This solution is rather expensive however...

If you want an "already prepared" solution that's very silent as well, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is a very good one, and costs just over half the others' prices...

EDIT: Welcome to the forums!

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro is a great cooler thats cheap too: linky Cant beat this for 30 bucks.

Thermaltake has the new Silent boost coolers out too, but they have no heapipes. They are supposed to be ultra quiet. I liked the old ones, but i dont know too much about the these news ones.

Actually, I'd advise the AC Freezer 64 Pro too... Can't be beaten for its price... Although the combination of ThermalRight + low speed Panaflo or Nexus is about the best sound-wise, this HSF is very, very silent as well...

Freezer 64 PRO for the price and Zalman CNPS9500 for the looks. Both perform about the same temp and noise wise per the reviews.

Personally I would go for the Freezer 64 PRO  because I have one 😀

That's a breath of fresh air. A bit of honesty 😛

Personally I would go with the XP-90C w/50cfm fan  Because I have one 😉

Fanon your WaveMaster does not have good intake air at the front. It has two 80mm fans that don't even touch the front panel on the inside. It's a good lookin' case but this is it's real weakness. This case needs a left side panel fan aimmed at the CPU. Well just in front of and below by a tad. A 92mm or 120mm.

For this reason, I would reccomend against a HSF that blows toward the rear of the case. Get a HSF that blows down toward the motherboard. For cheap an XP-90 aluminum. For quiet a SI-120.

Hey!! Do a search of this forum. It might be in the archieves(over 90 days). There was a long but very good thread on improving the air flow of the WaveMaster case.

Thanks, y'all!

Aye, the WaveMaster doesn't have the best airflow, but that's not why I bought it 😉 I'm gonna read that thread.

I may get the AC Freezer for another box. After a quick look, I wonder why I even missed it or passed it up.

Thanks again!

For the best price that I've seen for the Freezer 64 Pro, go to zipzoomfly.com and you'll find it at $27.99 (USD) with free 2nd day shipping. I'm ordering one tonight.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, Masscool or Spire are brands to look at. The FalconRock works great for Socket A and I'm sure they have similar for the 64 bit socket formats.

.bh.

I have 3 nf4 machines and each of them have a different hsf. I have a freezer 64, scythe fcs-50 and a scythe kamakiri and to be honest they all perform about the same. The biggest difference is in the price of each unit. You can't go wrong with the freezer 64 and now they've got a new design that allows you to orientate the fan as you like.

Here's want I'm gonna do. I'm going to keep what I currently have until Feb. or March. I planned on getting the Praetorian 730 anyway, and after reading that thread I think that'll help tremendously.

When I get it, I'll probably get Arctic Freezer 64 or an SI-120, depending up whether or not I can take that air tunnel off. That'll give me some time to mod my WaveMaster for the board I'll be putting in it (old NF3 I have lying around).

Thanks for all the replies!

For a single core Athlon 64 you really don't need anthing all that great. If you're upgrading for silence reasons, then replace the chipset fan with a passive cooler too.
