Dual P3 1000
1 GB ECC RAM (4 x 256)
ATI AIW 7500 - AGP
SB AWE 128 - PCI
SATA controller - PCI
3com NIC - PCI
On board enabled
IDE 1
IDE 2
SCSI 1
SCSI 2
FDD
USB
RAM ECC checking
dissabled all LPT and COM
dissabled all BIOS shadow and catching options
- Symptoms -
huge array of issues, all ironed out. most of it had to do with IRQ sharing problems
rearranging Cards around, and dissabling IRQ for USB and for Video card helped a lot.
First it was HEAT problem with the ECC RAM overheating, that was easily solved, after adding lots of FAN (now i have another vacuum cleaner PC
)
RAM memtest86, and other memory testing tools, all checked out okay
(if i dissable the ECC checking, then i do get some memory errors here and there)
Everything works fine in Win98SE, had only 1 minor problem with TOO MUCH RAM
, easily fixed with a .ini setting
BUT! in WinXP (SP2) that fricking thing is randomly throwing errors left and right,
it starts up properly, i can run any office type of application just fine, but AntiVirus softwares and 3D Games randomly doesn't start (AV), or in the case of 3D games it randomly throws a Blue screen.
Everytime is a different error message, but it's always around the line of
IRQ No Less or Equal
IRP Stack Size
and others alikes
sometimes shows windows system files causing the problem, sometimes shows driver files to be the problem, but it's still too random
During the HAL installation & detection process during Setup, had to restart the PC to continue the install many many times.
i think the WinXP install might have got corrupted during all those hang/reboots.
IRQ and the IRP problems i think they are gone, after shifting PCI cards around, and increasing the IRP stack size
but there are still some problems that still dumps me into the Blue screen
and i've got no clue why the Antivirus Engine sometimes works and some times does not.
when they do not, they complain about a Windows system RPC (remote procedure call) error or missing, but it's started and restarted, (i've no clue how to fix that yet) the AVG or AVAST realtime protection some times works some times doesn't )-| because of that... feels kinda naked without an AV software running.
Any idea what else could be the problem?
