I need a hernia operation

Whatever the cause was I dont know, but I have a hernai cause I feel contents from my abdomens slipping down into groin. Has anybody had this surgery, and how much did it cost? I dont have insurance.

I'm not sure why you don't have insurance. I know it's pretty expensive, but they sell catastrophic policies for pretty cheap - with low monthly premiums.

OK, with that put aside, I really wouldn't avoid this operation. Has your doctor explained the risks if you were to not go ahead with the operation?

There are many factors in cost such as the type of hernia (epigastric, spigelian, etc.) and procedure (reduction or excision). You'll need to see a doctor before anything can be determined. It's gonna drain you a hell of alot.

I have had three, all covered by workers compensation. Don't believe them when they say you will be back to work in a week. They are lieing. 😛 The drugs are pretty good, though.

I had a hernia but it was when I was an infant so the only thing I know about it is the scar 2 inches below my beltline.

Is it an indirect or direct hernia? Can you actually palpate your intestines through your scrotum? If so you can take a stethoscope and listen to bowl sounds in your scrotum... cool eh?

definetely NOT cool

Ouch, you definitly need medical insurance. I know a few people who would be either dead or out cold on the street if they didn't have it. (They're doing fine now)

Had an uncomplicated procedure at a regional hospital here, I was in 23 hours, $3866 . It was traditional cut and stitch , no laproscopic. It involved a patch of 'marlex' mesh instead of pulling the hole together. It did take a couple of weeks before I started feeling decent. This was in 1993. Never a problem since, wish I had done it sooner.

Good luck, I kept mine a secret for about 7 years until I could stand it no longer after I pushed it over the edge shoveling snow one day. Not sure what I was thinking, but just did not want to go throught what would be my first (and still only) surgical procedure.

How do you keep it a secret? And why?

i have a rip right above my belly button...i have yet to see a dr about it though :\

No insurance you're looking at a good $2000-$5000 🙁

It's not that big of deal though. I think they can do it outpatient now.
