I'm upgrading my 800MHz tbird to a 1.4GHz and need a new heatsink. I want something that will work if I ever decide to OC, not too loud, and not too expensive. Whay would you recommend?

TIA, micron

The Golden Gate is very good, and at its current price, is probably tops in the low price-end ($20 and below) arena. It used to fare well in the mid-price area $(25-35), but there are numerous HSF's out now that do better than it, particularly the Thermalright SK-6. The biggest issue with HS that use 60mm fans is the gawdawful noise they produce. I used a Golden Gate on my old rig, but put an 8045 on my new board and AXP. I won't ever go back! As for the Golden Gate, it dropped my temps from the stock Volcano 5 about 12C. I ran about 43C on a 1.4 Athlon-C at default, around 48-50C at 1.6ghz. Very nice cooling for a rather unremarkable looking heat sink.

Is there much of a difference between the SVC Goldengate and Dynatron DY1206BH-625?

The SK6 is no doubt an excellent HS at a very reasonable price (~$30). I have tried SK6 with 3 different fans: Delta 60mm 38CFM screamer, Sunon 80mm 31CFM and ThermalTake 60mm 21CFM.

Delta: Best cooling, horrible pitch. Only people with extreme tolerance or deaf people can use it.
Sunon: Good cooling, need 4 to 3 pin converter to monitor fan RPM. Also, fan needs to be installed diagonally on top of HS.
Tt: Marginal cooling, very quiet fan.

Hope it helps. :)
