I need a heatsink/fan combo for my p3 fcpga

i need it to be powerful and quiet...what is the best solution. i am using a golden orb right now it its at 46 degrees idle w/o overclocking. i need something a little bit better than that :D

hmm, a gorb is usually sufficient for cooling a p3 especially if not o/clocked. this begs the question if it's on properly. are you using thermal paste?
what sort of case cooling/ventilation do you have & what is the ambient air temperature?
btw, I'm assuming that your temperature is at idle & not at full load!

bacillus, it is @idle and not full load. i have no idea why the temp is so high, maybe i'll try to apply some more thermal paste on it. and thanks rojas for the link.

You should probably look into lapping the base of the heatsink, the orbs they have some pretty deep circular machine groves on the base. 46C is really not but if you do sand the base it should nock it down some.

Better quiet solutions are going with high quality sink like a Alpha PEP66 r2, or a Taisol CGK742/760, and switching it out with a quiet 20~dB fan...adapt is too a 80mm for more additional cooling.
