My g/f wants to go somewhere for the weekend of our anniversary so I need a place within a short drive of LA that's relaxing and peaceful. I know there's a lot of good places up near San Fran but that's too much of a drive since we're already driving up there the week before.

Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

- San Diego
- Newport Beach
- Santa Barbara

Anywhere else?

Santa Barbara's nice - might be cheaper if you stay in Golita, the little town right next to it. Only a few minutes away.

How far is Pismo Beach?

Desert in August = Suck.
Not an option. We want somewhere closer to the beach.

Catalina is a sh!thole. Not going there either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

How about make it 4 to 5 hrs from LA and hit Las Vegas, book at a good show and hit the buffets. I would suggest Paris one instead of the Bellagio just to be different.

Go during the weekday if you can, its a heck lot cheaper.

We want someplace romantic, not cheesy and glitzy. Besides, we're going there for her birthday the next month.
And last I checked, Vegas is nowhere near the beach. ;)

Oh, suggestions for particular locations IN each city as well as hotels would be much appreciated.

At 3hrs range.. there are several..

AT the 3 hr range is San Luis Obispo.. cute town.. I suggest getting a room at the Madonna Inn. Each room is tailored specifically and is themed, so if you want lots of hard action try the bedrock room themed after the flintstones. You can then drive up teh coast to Monterey or you can see San Luis Obispo and neighbouring places. http://www.madonnainn.com/

If your staying in Solvang / Goleta / Buelleton there is a Mariotte there if I am right. Solvang is a cute dutch down about an hour south of san luis obispo.

Santa Barabara is expensive but there are cute places, you can try SummerLand or Carpenteria for romantic getaways.

In the LA area there is the Dana Point Ritz (and there is another new resort in Dana Point) where one can spend a weekend away.

Palm Springs has some good places, and good hiking trails.

Hope this helps

I am trying to figure out what to do for my 6mnth anniv.

Tijuana sucks. I'd go to San Diego and hit the beaches or go to Santa Barbara and visit Solvang while you're there (it's about 20 miles from SB. Cute little Danish town with lots of gift shops and whatnot. Your GF will probably love it.)

Palm Springs is nice too, but not in the middle of the summer. If you want to go there, I'd go during the cooler months. You can go to the Living Desert, ride the tram up the mountain, go to Joshua Tree, etc.

Go to SD. You can hit up the zoo too. Girls love seeing cute furry things. Afterwards, she might let you see her cute furry thing too. :D

What if she shaves? Guess he'll have to settle for seeing her cute hairless love taco. ;)
