can anyone suggest one to me? I'm on xp and use outlook express.

Thing is I don't want one that works half ass and that might delete good email as well as spam. I get about 400 spam emails a day and I can skim through them pretty fast deleting them in a minute or two, but id rather eliminate this if possible.

tnx

popfile.sourceforge.net

free and really good - but you have to work for it in the beginning to "train" it

I have never had a false positive, but I quickly scan my trash just in case

What's your Email address? If you give it to me, I'll tell the boys to quit sending you spam. :p

It's funny that so many ISP and mail providers aren't doing their jobs and helping minimize spam and viruses. With all the network domain blocks and RBLs I'm running, I never get spam anymore. Virus scanning has killed the viruses coming in as well.....we delete first and ask questions later.

As far as store-bought packages go, the best I've seen so far is Mcafee SpamKiller. We've got two people piloting it in my office, with pretty good results. As with most other packages, you have to tweak it as you go along, correcting the "false positives" and adding your own filters. It's definitely got the most filtering options I've ever seen, allowing you to filter by sender address, subject line, or any text string in the body. We've had good results by filtering the referring URLs in the body of HTML messages. After a few days we had it catching around 95% of the incoming spam.
