I'm will to be going on a trip overseas in November, and plan to bring my discman to keep me to keep me company. It's a Sony D-FS18 , and it can output some pretty decent bass, but unfortunately my current headphones cannot handle the rumble :(

I'm looking for a good, relatively lightweight and non-cumbersome set of headphones for use with the CD player, but don't want to break the bank ($20 - $80?). Can i get some suggestions on what might fit my needs? I don't know much about the headphone market ;)

Koss Portapro. There was a thread in hot deals about them last week, with a coupon that may still be valid. Got mine for $31 shipped ($50 retail). They rock! (And they fold up nice too!)

Many people at a forum that I visit will either suggest Sony's MDR-E888 or EX-70. Both are small, very portable earbuds that should fit your criteria. The EX-70s have better bass but can block out noise quite a bit, which might be dangerous in traffic. The MDR-E88, which I personally own, is a little weak on bass but it has superb clarity.

Grado SR60s are awesome and in your price range.

$65.50 shipped at Q-audio

No need for a headphone amp (plenty loud) and they lie flat. I used mine with my Inspiron Notebook for CD/DVDs. They are "audiophile" quality and superb bang-for-the-buck.

And NO, the open air design does not bother fellow travellers (even in cramped airline economy seating).
