I need a free alternative to Norton Ghost.

I have Nero 6 which will let me create a hard drive backup, is that the same thing that Ghost does? If not, does anyone know of any free alternatives to Norton Ghost?

Ghost creates a mirror image of the drive. Another prg you might like is called DriveImage. I believe there is a link in the "Free replacements..." thread but if not, just google it. hope this helps

Well, DriveImage is no longer. Norton bought the company that makes it and now only sells Ghost. What's the difference between creating a backup in Nero and one with Ghost?

NERO is just backing up the files onto CD or DVD. Ghost is making an image of the boot partition (or any partition) so you can restore the OS to the state it was when you make an image. If you need to backup your files, use NERO. If you want an image of your boot drive, use Ghost/DriveImage or True Image.

Image for Windows and DOS isn't free, but it makes disc images just like Ghost/TrueImage and is a deal for only $27.
