Hi, I am 16 and I need a cc one way or another. It doesn't matter if it is a real credit card or one that I deposit money into that works like a credit card. Does anyone know of a service that will let me get one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you get a cosigner, you're most likely SOL for a true credit card. If you can get a cosigner, you might look into a secured card like CapitalOne offers.

If you can't get a cosigner, get a checking account & a debit card. It functions exactly like a Visa, but draws directly from your savings account.

There are also a number of plans where a parent sets a limit to how much you can spend, much like a debit card. I've been offered it from Visa and American Express but my parents won't let me get it.. :(

I might want to get one of these cards but my only concern is that I make alot of internet purchases, will this visa buxx card give the same protection as a normal card?

That visa buxx thing looks pretty good, but only 4 banks seem to be giving it out and I want the money to come from my bank account.. not have to have my parents put it in there. Is there an min age to get some kind of card that works like a cc but is just hooked up to your bank account or something?

A Visa Check card will do just that. AFAIK there isn't an age limit. You just need the cash

Actually, not all Visa Check cards are the same. Make sure you read your cardmember agreement carefully. Many of these Visa debit cards provide considerably less protection than a normal Visa credit card. I know that for credit cards you are only liable for $50 when you report a fraudulent transaction, however some Visa debit cards hold you liable for $500. Pretty big difference in my book.

Just as critical, even if the issuer guarantees you zero liability for fraud, is the fact that with a check card your money is gone first, then you fight to get it back.

With a credit card you just dispute the charge and don't pay. That's the most important reason I won't use a check card. If someone gets hold of my information, I don't want to be broke while I fight to get some faceless drone at a bank to give me my money back.

Ecount I have an accnt there, but havent got my debit card yet...I guess you can just browse the net and they give you a mastercard # to use and it takes it out of your accnt (kinda like paypal)
You can use it anywhere that accepts mastercard.
