I need a cool, quiet case....What should I get ?

Ok I am looking for another case. I have a P180 used for my AMD rig. I now have a P160 that I am using for my Pentium 4 rig. I want another case for my Pentium rig, one that is cooler and more quiet. I have considered another P180, but I just want to see what else is out there.

I want a cool case which means at least 2 120mm fans and at least another 120mm or a couple of 80mm fans too. I also don't want it to be too loud either, maybe not as quiet as the P180 but more quiet than the P160. My budget is <$200. Oh and I have a OCZ Powerstream 520 ADJ, that stays, so whatever case I get has to fit that.

So what cases should I consider ?

I am a HUGE fan of the Antec cases. I have (2) SLK3700AMB's running, (1) 1650B running, a 2600 (temporarily out of service) and another 3700AMB (waiting for a re-build on the sidelines). All of those have 120MM exhausts, some have smaller intake fans though.

I have to say that the SLK3700's are my favorites (AMB for Bronze, and BQE for Black). They have a 120MM exhaust (Antec fan included), 120MM intake, removable 'cages' for the floppy and hard drives. The 5.25" drives mount on 'rails' and there isn't a sharp edge to be found. They also include a Antec 350W PS. They typically sell for around less then $100.

Good luck whatever you decide, but please let us know what you decided to buy. I would love to hear if there are other cases out there I should consider.

Another vote for the SLK3000b. One of the silent cooling sites said it was better in terms of cooling and quietness compared to the older Sonata. You have a PSU already, so you don't need a case with one.

deadken: did you cut out the grills? You pretty much have to cut the grills out on the 3700AMB for good airflow and less noise.

I think if I get an Antec case it would just be another P180.

I was thinking more like a TT Armor, CM Stacker or maybe a Lian Li that's not too expensive and can fit my PSU.

Over $100 is too expensive in my book. How about the Aerocool Masstige? Or the Coolview, which is basically a gussied-up Masstige with a door... Or one of the Silverstones - maybe you can wait for the new TJ07. Or one of the newer Coolermasters. And then there are the AOpen Noveau and Impression if you really MUST spend some money (and the PSU really isn't proprietary, it's a rebadged Fortron as the AOpen PSUs have pretty much always been).

I guess I am looking for a " Cadillac" of cases, as mentioned in another thread, without spending way too much.

I'd refer you to the Antec p150 but w/ the neo he compatibility issues w/ certain mobos paying 150 bucks wouldn't be worth it. If you can wait then I'd wait till antec either solves the psu issue or it releases the case stand-alone. If not you might go for Lian-Li. They always manage to produce some stunning although expensive cases.

I personally have a p180 and it, though some say looks like a refrigerator, looks damn good compared to any other case IMHO. If the p180 is a mercedes, then I'd say a p150 is a Bangle-ized BMW, if you catch my drift. Both have equal amount of good points, maybe the p150 is better. But it sure looks ugly IMO.

Well I am looking into the TT Armor, CM Stacker 810, the Lian Li 6078 and the Aerocool Masstige. The cool thing about the Masstige is it seems to be a lot alike the Stacker, but about $65 less.

Which of these choices stand out ?

the CM Stacker 810 is 200+ I think?

Why not the P180...its easy to find it for only 100, and as you said, it is very quiet. If I ever buy another case it will be the P180...the Lian Li's are nice, but way too expensive for a good one.

No, the Stacker 810 is about $165.

Who knows I may just get another P180, it is definitely one of the better values out there. Look how hard it is to find something better without spending an arm and a leg !

Cadillac to me means: Oversized on the outside, undersized on the inside, blinged out like a 50s Wurlitzer jukebox, and that handles like a marshmallow with wheels... 😉

That was your Fathers Cadillac......not the new Caddy's !!! 😉

Anyway I just referencing another thread here, talking about what people believe are the " best" cases out there.

Does anyone know if the OCZ Powerstream 520 will fit into the Lian Li cases....specifically the V1000B ?

If the OCZ will fit then the new Fortron 600 Watter will fit too. Just 1/2" longer than standard ATX. Looks good too.

I did cut out the intake grill on 'my' 3700 case, and I drilled out the rear fan grill holes for more airflow (the last time I will ever do that! (It was alot of work)). The newer 3700 cases have MUCH better flow through their grills.
