i need a color printer

If you are planning on printing photographs I would check out the forums over at www.dpreview.com. I have both the Epson Stylus Photo 780 and Epson Stylus Photo 2200. I am very impressed with both printers. I only print photos.
 
... but if you want low ink cost, and serviceable print heads that are much less prone to clogging than Epson's, then consider a Canon model. $400 buys you the best of their six-color photo printers. They have six separate ink tanks, one for each color.
 
Up to this point, they don't. Only Black is separate, the other five inks are one-empty-ditch-all.
