I need a car until the end of august, but i don't want to buy a used car since i only need it short-term. regular rental of a car is out of the question because that would be way too expensive for 4 months. I live in toronto........are there any places in general that allow short-term leases of cars? any ideas on what i should do?

Thanks in advance :)

Hey i'm in Toronto and in the same position as you. I'm thinking of getting a cheap under $3000 car for the summer.

It depends on what your looking for in a car. I want something fun to drive, such as a Talon or older RX7 and it has to be a manual tranny. At this point, a Suzuki Swift 5-spd would be fine for me.

What I would do:
Get the crappiest car possible that still runs good.

That way you can beat the hell out of it and then just give it away. We're talking about a $500 car here. You'll make the $500 up in entertainment value of running it into the ground.

Then after that, take the money you saved and use it as a down payment on getting something worth taking care of. And take good care of that one.

Good ideer....and donate it to a charity when you're finished for the tax break. :)

Are there any local Rent-a-wreck type agencies? You might talk to the manager there, but you're probably still looking at upward of $700 CAD.

Best bet is to buy a used car private party and sell it in four months.

Go spend $2000 on a cheap used car, drive it for 4 months, sell it for what you paid for it.

Your cost = gas/oil

Man, if there were an easy solution, I'd like to hear it too, since there's a job for me in NJ for the summer, but I don't have a car I can take out there. (well, kinda, but not really)

How's the mass transportation in NJ?

Yeah. I was thinking of getting a DSM Turbo/AWD/5spd for four months and then sell it in September or so. I have no use for a car during University time since I take the subway to University (no in hell I'm paying $14/day for parking over there!!). I figure 3rd party insurance on that will be fairly cheap as well.
