I just moved to a new house in a town only about about 10 minutes from where I previously lived. I had mediacomm cable brodband internet at my old house and loved it. Well to make a long story short, mediacomm doesn't service the town I moved to so I had to cancel my contract. It turns out the only internet provider (besides dial-up) is frontier DSL which needs an active house phone plan with frontier - $45 a month for just phone line and another $50 for DSL internet, so over $100 a month adter tax!:disgust:

I love my cell phone and HATE house phones, so obviously I do not currently have a house phone. I called every internet company in Minnesota and barely any of them even have my town on their system! so now I have no option but to pay $100 for some phone-line DSL and have a house phone that I will never use!:frown:

I hate small towns

you should have thought of that before moving

you could start a wireless ISP and give yourself free service

First thing I checked when I started building my new house was broadband availability. If you didn't check that, gotta take what you can get ;)

1. buy networking/wireless equipment
2. learn how to set it up
3. get business license
4. advertise/get customers
5.
6. profit!

How do you do that?

Get a DSL line, hook a wireless router to it, add a big antenna to the router, and you're in business.

Welcome to the world of legalized monopolies.

Don't like it, win the lottery and bribe the local politicians with more money than they are getting from the telcoms

There's no way in the world I'd pay $100 a month just for broadband. I'd live on dialup, unless I was independently wealthy.

But even then you'd be paying upwards of $65 a month after you factor in the cost of a phone line and the dial up ISP.

Does your cell phone provider offer any wireless ISP services?

If I had to, I would. I can't go back to dialup after over five years.

Sprint has CDMA service everywhere as far as I know. unlimited service was $80/month last time i checked. it isn't much faster than dial up, but it is a little better. they might start dropping prices soon with Verizon rolling out EV-DO broadband.
