I don't want to sound paranoic, but I think it would be cool to wear a bullet proof vest once in a while.

Does anyone have idea how expensive is one of these?
where can I buy one?

I believe in most states it's illegal for anyone outside of law-enforcement to own or wear body armor.

Darn. I was starting to think a bullet proof vest would be just the accesory for my handcuffs.

Cool? Try stifling hot. They don't breath well. Plus unless you get a good expensive one, they are bulky under your clothes.

i'd say they'd be from $500-1000+, not cheap. and a word of advice, some of those suckers are heavy :p depending on the quality, you may find yourself getting really sore, lol, that is, of course, unless you're in great shape.

maybe i should get one to wear to school :p

i don't think bulletproof vests are illegal. i remember my sam's club used to sell them but then again i'm in chicago. walking near the projects is like walking around a war zone. the cheapest one i see around is $199.99 but i don't think you wanna go cheap on bulletproof vests. quality is key here. you want to spend a little more and get a nice expensive one from a reputable dealer.

I believe that in most places it's not a crime to wear body armor, but if you commit a crime while wearing body armor, that adds to the offense.

If your going to spend $1000 for something that would be "cool" to have, but really be useless, get a Pentium 4.

Or rockets.

ViperGTS,

Where did you hear they're illegal? That would be a fscking outrage. The government has no right to stop you from protecting yourself (especially in such a defensive way as a vest).

Sigh, this is the gun debate all over again. HELLOOOOOOO.. the ones the cops need to stop/shoot are criminals in the first place, so they're not going to abid by a "no bullet proof vest" law. Laws like that only hurt good citizens.

BTW, I agree with you, on the vests and with guns. I was just saying that that is the only logical reason they ever would ban them.

It won't help you against this handgun, it will fire bullets that'l penetrate 30 layers & kevlar plus nearly 3mm of titanium plate, at a distance of 100 metres & will do it 18 times in a row without re-loading. Plus it wouldn't help much against this rifle, firing this ammo..

[Edit: I fixed the links, the 'handgun' link now goes to the right page & so does the 'ammo' link.)

In all 50 states, it is agaist the law to own a Bullet Proof jacket unless you have a Weapons licence (Class 3). In Pennsylvania, it is a misdemeanor to own one w/o a licence, and a instant felony if you commit a crime while wearing one (From a misdemeanor to vandalism)

<< and in Pennsylvania, an eighth-grader was suspended because he
was wearing a bullet-proof jacket.
>>

Straight from the Portland NORML news.

body armor and kevlar vests are not illegal in the U.S.

If they were, why doesn't the government go bust up anti-terrorist group fanatics in the Mountains running around like rambo's next-of-kin? I know the stuff's not illegal because I know someone with FULL body armor. Platemail, kevlar, anti-heat armor as well. :Q:D:)

Up until a few years ago, he used to live next to me. He's also got two black-powder pistols from the CivilWar. Along with those, he keeps an AK-47 in the gun cabinet next to his bed. It's got a full stock with the pistol grip carved into it. So, it may feel like a pistol grip, but technically it's not. With that said, the AK having the special suppressor muzzle cap is still legal. :)

--and all of his weapons are registered. That's the only thing I don't like about the whole ordeal. If the gov. goes looking for guns, the registered owners are the first to lose 'em --which means him too.

But, yes, body armor, Kevlar, plate, etc. is legal.

Viper,
Did you ever meet Isaac when he lived next door? Were you around when he lived here?
