I am looking for a monitor for my girlfriend. She is not going to use it for gaming but she will be using it to watch tv and dvds on. I am looking at the viewsonic a70 or some kds I found on pricewatch. The kds is flat while the viewsonic is not. I am not a monitor know it all so help me out here. If I could round up another 50 bucks is there another monitor I should buy that I could get for 250?

If you're talking about the kds Avitron's, then go for that over the VS if they're the same price. Its a much better monitor.

LG Flatron 775

A great flat screen monitor at a good price, under £180. Don't know what currency you use though.

Samsung 753DF or 755DF. The 755DF is about $20 more but has higher refresh rates (something I think the 753df lacks in). But then again I'm pretty sure the current samsung $30 rebate doesn't apply to the 755DF. Well you can decide if the 753df's refresh rates are okay with you. But the monitor itself is real nice. It's a shadow mask that is flat, though not quite as flat as the flat-screen aperture grill monitor.

If you really can get the money, I'd get the Samsung 700NF. It's an aperture grill with a great picture and nice specs. It's over $250 but with the $30 rebate that should bring it under.

I had thoughts about a Hyundai 19 inch monitor at Tigerdirect for $199. I just remember a post a few months ago about getting a lower quality 19 inch monitor "looking better" than a high quality 17 incher...

Food for thought.

The Samsung 753df and 755df are both very nice monitors. The only problem with the 753 is it has lower refresh rates.

The monitor is one of the pieces of hardware you don't want to skimp on. A $199--19" monitor, I be that is a good one. I have used a Viewsonic A70 for about $175 with good results. You will probably have that monitor long after you have the motherboard/prcessor that it's hooked up to. Don't go too cheap. A good Sony or other quality 17" for about $300 is worth the price. I had a cheap monitor at work that was making me blind. An hour in front of it was all I could take. R.

I use a 19inch KDS (vs-19sn) and have been very pleased with the KDS Visual Sensations line (5 year warranty like most).

The KDS vs-8i has great spces for a 17inch, but the cheaper vs-7i would be more than sufficient. If you have the desk space the 19" vs-190 or 195 is not much more than the vs-8i when the deals are on.

Shop Smart... "Shop S-MART". and you'll get a 19" for what you'd pay for a 17" with similar specs.
