(If you recognize this post, you may have seen it over at Hardforum. Sorry, I just need some answers and the best way is to reach a lot of people)
I recently purchased an HP w2007 monitor. Its native res is 1680x1050 (so it's 16:10 aspect ratio).
I hooked my Xbox 360 to it via the official Microsoft Xbox 360 VGA cable. It looks nice, except the 16:9 image is stretched out to fill the 16:10 screen. Even though this monitor has a "fill to aspect ratio" option, it still will not display the image correctly.
I've read that the similar HP w2207 monitor will not display PS3 stuff properly either (via HDMI to DVI), so I assume that it won't display Xbox 360 stuff correctly either (and I need a monitor that shows both correctly anyway).
I have talked to someone who has an HP w2408 (1920x1600 at 16:10 ratio) that does display Xbox 360 and PS3 images correctly, with black bars on the top and bottom. But, I plan to use my monitor for PC games, too, and I don't want my computer to chug through rendering at such a high resolution... but I guess it will look better though since the pixels will be mapped perfectly for 360 and PS3 (1920x1080 image mapped onto a 1920x1600 monitor). Also, the HP w2408 has a 1:1 pixel mapping option... but I think it Fill to Aspect Ratio works too. Weird.
Still, are there any 1680x1050 monitors that will display Xbox 360 and PS3 16:9 games at the correct aspect ratio?
Thanks for reading.
