Some of you may remember my recent problem with a dead power supply/motherboard, which turned out to be the motherboard (now I wonder).

I ordered a replacement MB, a MSI K7T Turbo. I hook it up to my new case, hit the power, and...

nothing. No beeps, no fans, nothing. I put the mobo back in the old case. Same thing. No life. Nothing in the case is shorting the MB. I have brass standoffs.

Any ideas? Did I just get cursed with another dead MB, or are both cases dead, or what? I don't believe that I got another dead MB just by coincedence. I think I'm missing something, some possibility. Could the Power SW connection in one case be bad and the PS dead in the other? Help me try and figure this one out before I order another MB and kill myself when it doesn't work.

I had this happen to me as well. I have a MSI K7Pro Motherboard.

The diagnostic LEDs on my mobo wouldn't light up, the fans wouldn't kick in either...I believe the problem was because the PS in my old case wasn't delivering enough juice (even though it was listed at 250W, it clearly didn't do anything because once I switched cases everything started to work).

Also check to see that all the brass standoff screws are properly inserted. Make sure you don't have any EXTRA brass screws, as that shorted out a MSI motherboard for me in the past. Try taking out the entire mobo and re-seating it.

First check and see if your power supply can give juice to anything else like the cdrom (see if you can open and close it) that will tell you if its dead. Your mother board may not be grounded right. Also you should check for a loose fitting on the power supply connecter to the MOBO. Thats all I can think of, hope it helps. (probably wont--AAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZ)

Thanks. I went out and got a new EVERYTHING. New MB, new RAM, new monitor, new video card.

Guess what? I figured out what happened originally. I shorted out EVERYTHING. MB, RAM, Video card, all gone.

I never thought a surge protector was necessary. Now I do.

That still doesn;t explain the dead MSI K7T, but a new Asus A7V is working fine.

Go figure. Thanks for the help. How about a loan?

:D
