I missed the boat with Left for Dead 2 but...

I missed the boat with LFD2, by the time I realized what a great game it was the online scene was dead. but.. Dead Island is coming up in a week, it sounds like it could have similar online play as LFD but it's a different developer and the only game they've made that I've even heard of is Call of Jaurez and I never played that game.

So does anyone got the scoop on this Dead Island game? going to be as good as LFD or what? I looked at some of game play video and wasn't impressed but maybe it was single player and not the 4 person co-op that I liked about LFD. The video I video I saw reminded me more of Far Cry 2 then LFD2 to tell the truth.

I think that the game play of Dead Island is more interesting than the one in L4D2. Game is definitely going to be more interesting in coop and with friends, not random internet people. Buddies and I already have it pre-ordered. Try to get some friends to play with you.

Comes out in 5 days. It's $34 at GMG with the 20% coupon/15% pre-order bonus if you're interested.

At this point I'm thinking its just a LFD clone but I'll wait for release reviews before saying for certain it is or not.

L4D2 online is dead? Where did you get that from? I play L4D2 just about everyday, and rarely run into the same people. According to Steam, there are anywhere from 7,000 - 10,000 people playing l4d2, how is that dead?

The l4d2 community has shrunk due to the lack of updates and patches from Valve. But the people at Valve are "supposed" to be releasing new maps through the rest of the summer.

l4d and l4d2 have a loyal following and a strong community.

As for Dead Island, I am waiting for the reviews before I buy.

This.

Every time I play online, there are tons of people playing.

Now,

playing with good players, that's another story all together...

I can concur. I jump in and run a few games of lfd2 daily here on the est and find players without a problem. It's no where near dead.

I just started playing L4D 1 & 2 this week and I've never had a problem finding a game. Out of the 16 hours played so far there was only one griefer, and he was really just instigating action all the time instead of being stealthy. Even games started with 2 people fill up by the end. L4D1 seems dead, but again, I never have a problem getting a full game.

Dead Island looks goofy...like Fallout 3 meets Trespasser. I dont want to buy it then find out I need to "upgrade my aim", especially when a zombie horde is on my butt!

Sounds like Dead Island is about melee weapons. I don't care for melee weapons but I'll wait for reviews. It actually sounds like a pretty big ripoff of left 4 dead though.

Then go play Campaign or a friends game and get better...

That is one of the problems with noobs, they jump straight into versus, or worse yet, versus realism. Play a couple of rounds through single player before you jump into a versus game.

but if you can't take direction either, then it's vote kick time.

Two things here, if someone is new to l4d/l4d2, learn to take directions and buy a $20 mic at wal-mart.

I have had new people stop moving, and type in something like "do not tell me what to do" - and they had something like 20 hours playing time and no mic. That guy was vote kicked in a matter of seconds. If someone with over 1,000 hours playing time tells you to do something, do it, you will probably learn something in the process.

If you just suck ass, and especially have no mic, I'm gonna be a "jackass".

I'm sorry, but some people just take the game way too seriously. One miss by someone and they flip out. It's a freaking game and you are playing with random players, if you want to play a super serious game then find a group of like-minded psychos to play with.

I play with people that are horrible and if they are at least trying, then I try to help them learn the game so the community grows and there are more decent people to play with.

Chances are someone just buying the game is going to suck.

Well, its still a shooter, and as long as you shoot things it shouldn't be too bad. So far the only thing you dont shoot is a witch, or a car. You learn that quick. But when no one is talking, which is frequent, it is hard to know what the strategies are. I usually just shadow the person in front.

Its strange, but people do have mics set up, but they just dont use them. I was playing with a group for a couple of games and not a peep until I called out a laser sight, and then they screamed "where?!?".

Good for you. Fortunately for myself I don't give a rat's ass about helping noobies most of the time, so I won't. I too play with people who aren't good, but they listen to me and do as I say and are fun to play with, where as generally noobs aren't. At all.

I am confused how you guys claim there are thousands of people online playing L4D2. I mean I believe you but when I go on there are hardly any people. Sometimes I can't even find enough to start a match.

This game has given me NO ENDS of problems from the first week I bought it. I am not the only one as well (by a long shot).

If its not dead then it should be!

My 2 cents...

check out this guys youtube channel for gameplay, it is like the Fallout series, but I really like the atmosphere of Dead Island, Note also that this is PS3 footage, not pc, but it still looks rather good.

Don't watch it if you don't want to ruin the story :sneaky:

Well if the scene isn't dead I'm not sure why I couldn't find a full server last time I checked it out. I wanted to get all the achievements but found myself with maybe 1 or 2 players who continually drop out etc. But I didn't really give it a fair chance so I'm loading it up again from Steam and I'm going to try again.. this time for more then half an hour 😛

I'm not wearing a mic and I'm sure as hell muting your gay ass. I don't ever, ever play games with people using mics, except maybe my brother on rare occasions. I don't play a carefully crafted game to hear your squeaky fucking voice ruining the atmosphere.
