Venting/reminiscing thread:

More than 3 years ago I had my '06 SV650S stolen. I bought a replacement '04 SV but after having a bike stolen and having nowhere decent to store/secure a bike (I live in an apartment) I went ahead and sold it a month or two after I bought it.

Every year I go through this around spring time, I see everyone getting out on their bikes and it hurts. For those of you who still have your two wheeled joy machines, I envy you.

That is all...:'(

An alarm system in an apartment parking lot? It'd be going off every 30 minutes. Who pays attention to those any more?

No, I need a way to secure a bike and there isn't a way at my current place. That said, the wife and I are looking at buying our first house in the next few months and a garage is an absolute requirement.

CAn't you rent a place in a garage nearby? Sure, walking five minutes to ride sucks (or ride bus five minutes, which is about how I'm going to have it, anyway) but it's better than no riding, no?

For a while I was leaving my bike at a buddy's place, driving over there, and riding. In the end though it really was more trouble than it was worth.

Park it inside the apartment. :D

I tried like crazy to convince my wife to let us put it on the patio (walk in level apartment but it's on a hill so the patio is 2 stories up). She said no.

I'd say fuck it, that's what insurance is for

Seems like even when crap is not your fault (thefts or comp claims) the insurance company still ends up bending you over and raising your rates or at least deductibles.

I would be scared of this, but I am only talking from experience.

That sucks man. Hope you get a place with a garage soon so you can enjoy riding again.

I rode to work today. Only drove the car once this week in fact.

allstate charged a windshield replacement as an "incident over $1000" and raised my insurance like it was an accident. im not with allstate anymore.

Sold my zx6r two days ago. I need something with a less aggressive riding position. Now on the lookout for another even though I promised the wife I'd wait a year til I got another bike. It's a sickness!! I'm having bike withdrawals lol.

What really sucks is that I got a letter in the mail 8 months after it was stolen from a wrecker service saying they were going to auction it off if I didn't come pick it up. They had the bike for over 5 months and NEVER notified me, then wanted me to pay almost $3,000 to claim it. That's massively screwed up.

Thanks man. I want another SV, was such a great little bike. Good on the street, great on the track (although next time I'm out there it WILL get better suspension bits), so well balanced. An excellent follow up to my POS EX500 (literally, I was the 4th owner and it'd been ridden ROUGH, great bike though).

Two whole days? Oh noes!

You could always get bar risers, or just get a less sport oriented bike.

They don't make bar risers for a 2009 zx6r and the bikes sold anyways. I do plan on eventually getting a less sport oriented bike. My need for speed isn't what it used to be. I've been looking really hard at the ninja 1000 (not to be confused with the zx10r). It's pretty much a z1000 with a full fairing. Should be much easier on the wrists.

Fz8 and z1000 are definitely in the running. I really want a bike that has full fairings for the cold rides although not having to remove plastics to do any maintenance sounds nice. I got some feelers out on prices for a 2010 z1000 orange and white. If they offer me a price I like it might be mine.

Check out the ninja 1000. It's a z1000 with full fairings, rubber mounted footpegs to reduce vibration, and one less tooth in the rear sprocket for better highway riding. I just found out about it today and all reviews have been very favorable towards it.

the 8 doesnt have full fairings

I almost bought a FZ1 last week. you can get them for about 7k new as leftovers, then just buy the Genuine yamaha accessory fairings

wtf? isn't that knowingly selling stolen goods, which is illegal pretty much everywhere? Did you notify your insurance company when that happened?

Yup, and contacted a buddy of mine that was a lawyer. The "claimed" to have mailed out a notice of receiving it from the police and somehow it was lost in the mail. Don't worry, I didn't pay anything close to what they were asking for it, but I honestly should have gotten it for just the cost of the tow (I paid tow + a week's worth of holding it).

ah, so you did get it back, and then sold it. which i would have understood if i'd read properly in the first place.

I blame pics of pretty bikes for the distraction.
