I miss Kotaku

Since I absolutely refuse to use the terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE new layout I have been using uk.kotaku.com. Now they've updated it to the new format, so I guess that's that. The reason behind keeping the change is annoying as hell, too.

Any other good game news sites that are updated constantly?

I agree. The new layout is terrible, I haven't been back to the site since. You'd think they would change it back considering the negative user feedback they've received. For news I usually just check out the gaming section on Digg.

Despite the horrible new layout I still go there because I like the articles. I follow Kotaku and Joystiq and between the two I'm fairly content. Though I like the commenter system of Kotaku. It took me a long time to get commenter status but I will admit that it is one of the few gaming sites that I will bother reading the comments. Though the system has seem to have fallen a bit since the layout change.

can't you just change it to "blog view"?

Yeah, that addresses something like 90% of my complaints. But the primary problem that remains are pictures. They allow you to scroll through a picture gallery but you do not see the entire picture. If it was a thumbnail, that would be fine, but they show the picture cropped. Which means I then have to search for the disappearing-reappearing "expand" button and expand the picture, close the picture, hit to go to the next picture, expand the picture...

I like reading Kotaku, Gizmodo, and Lifehacker but their new layout just plain sucks. It's not very tablet friendly either. They must have paid big bucks for it, or they would have dumped it long ago.

Since the change to their new format, I deleted all the gawker sites out of my rss list.

And to tell you the truth, I don't miss it. Kotaku is 95% redundant if you subscribe to Joystiq, and I use Giant Bomb and Rock, Paper, Shotgun to fill in the rest of my RSS feed.

Didn't they lose like 90% of their daily views when they switched? All of the Gawker sites I mean. I remember hearing that. Oh well, I never use them and their layout IS terrible.

Why would you delete the Gawker sites from your RSS feed? That's the only way those sites are still usable to me. I stopped visiting all the Gawker websites I used to frequent except Lifehacker since the websites are complete UI disasters.

And yes, Giant Bomb is the bomb since they added a regular news guy (Patrick Kleppek).

I despise kotaku. Not because of the layout. kotaku has no standards. They shamelessly copy and paste articles from other sites and/or steal content, then claim they were the first to discover it.

The Staff are such self centered and self righteous pricks, who think they are the embodiment of excellence in gaming journalism.

Lastly the community really pisses me the fuck off. Back before gawker went to shit, I used to post on kotaku. Now it's mainly psuedo hipster douchebags(like reddit) who circle jerk each other for upvotes and 'likes.'

That is the worst system ever introduced to a comment system. No one says what they think, they say what others want to hear so they get 1000 likes like it fucking means something.

Because I like to occasionally click through and read the comments. After a while, I realized that I had mostly duplicate stories between engadget/gizmodo and joystiq/kotaku. So I got rid of the gawker stuff.

Lifehacker is ok, but nothing special for me.

But yea, gawker could revert back to a traditional layout for all I care, I'm not visiting their stuff anymore. There's a lot of other content out there that is better written, imo.

Yep, pretty much this.
