I miss beige

I don't. D:
Those were dark days.

Okay, actually, these are dark days, & i like it that way.

I acually found a old Microstar ATX case not too long ago (one of the first of the microstar computer line of ATX) I was thinking of putting my P4 build in it

I've got an old enlight case that was beige. But over time it has changed colors, along with the two drives that are in it. I am not a smoker but it has turned yellow. So I think I'll stick with black. 😉

I like the beige look too. It reminds me of the earlier days of personal computing when I was still in my formative years. There is something businesslike and stately about it, like when you sit down you want to just bang out work and be productive. I guess that's part of my Model M fetish, too.

I wonder how the black case trend got started? It seems like Dell was pretty early with black cases. I don't recall black case options before 2000.

I hate hate hate beige. Going black was the best thing that happened to personal computing. Nothing says iron curtain industrial design like beige cases :^(

I was happy with beige.

As with cars, black shows dust more. And a black case with a beige drive or a beige case with a black drive looks awful.

One thing you don't see much of nowadays are other colors: Green, pink, purple, red, blue and such. They were quite the rage several years ago.

Ah beige. The bland, soul sucking look of an early 90s cubicle farm comes to mind. Apple was the one who really revolutionized things with the fruity coloured iMacs. Though I think they're pretty ugly by today's standards. I'm a fan of silver myself. Both my systems have silver cases.

The only problem I see with beige is that all my beige equipment are all different shades of beige. It's easier to match black components.

Not that it really matters much to me. I'd mix beige, black, purple and pink stuff if it saved me a few bucks.

Uh... try matching a black optical drive to a black aluminum case like a Lian Li. The blacks don't match up because the anodized aluminum has a sheen to it.

I actually have a beige case sitting in the garage, NIB. Picked it up a couple years ago from SVC.com when they had some cheap ass cases. It is a Global Win brand (remember that brand for Pentium III/Athlon coolers?) and is a fairly normal looking ATX beige tower using 80mm fans... except it is in aluminum! I've already collected some retro parts for it, such as an Abit BX-6 with CPU, Voodoo 3, ISA SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold... Some day I'm going to build a monster DOS gaming rig.

(been telling myself that for years)

Don't we all? A friend and I keep promising to build a pair of Pentium 2-class boxes with Voodoo 3 cards and Win98 to once-again play Jane's Longbow 2, the best combat helicopter simulator ever made. People tend to give me old computers, so I've got a row of them ready for when I get the energy to do it.

I remember seeing black cases at a computer expo in 1997. My dad laughed at me for wanting one.

Who's laughing now? 😀

Check out the Lite On Blu-Ray drive iHOS104. It has a glossy front panel.

I actually have four DOS gaming boxes already set up that boot straight into DOS with networking and sound. They have Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Death Rally installed. The boxes are pretty mediocre though, just whatever I could throw together.

The MONSTER box will have the good parts, though. ^_^
