I miss Balder's Gate.

It's been years since I played a PC RPG game. I don't like MMO games at all. I want a game with a good story, like Balder's Gate or Torment. Are there any out there like that anymore?

Some NWN(2) modules, but not much from firs tier vendors. Intelligent RPGs that challenge the player with decisions more complicated than black and white with an intriguing story are very rare these days. Witcher 1 and 2, but they are pretty combat heavy.

Planescape Torment was better than BG2 in terms of story.

KOTOR has a great story, and is sort of a 3d version of Baldur's Gate set in the Star Wars Universe.

Icewind Dale series is similar to Baldur's Gate, with less story and more combat.

if you dont mind old games, get Might and Magic 6 or 7 (6 is a sprite engine without 3DFX support, 7 actually came out the same year as BG2 )

EDIT: notice i'm NOT talking HEROES of might and magic. that's a different thing, but good on its own.

BG2 (PC) and PST were the best RPGs ever made. Sadly, the industry thinks that people do not want to read or think when playing games, so nothing like them will ever come again

Dragon Age is pretty good. Replaying that and BG2 at the moment.

I sitll haven't played the Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape games, but I absolutely loved Fallout 1. ...and I only played that a few years ago for the first time; it was the grand opening of GoG, I believe.

I always liked those kinds of games, anyway, but was without a PC/time for the couple of years when the original FO games were released. FO1, though, doesn't have much of an expansive story, it's just the options and pathways are so intricate and offer tons of replayability. After thinking about it, though, I actually dig the FO concept of simple, main storyline (find the water chip; seek revenge (New Vegas), and everything else you can get caught in along the way, how you choose to complete that task not only make up the bulk of the game, but are very meaty options--they don't simply fill like filler.

to me, it seems like true role-playing: you have only a simple task to complete. You can finish it rather quickly, if you have the skills, that is--or you can let yourself get distracted and really grow with your character. immerse yourself in this world as you wish.

For my money, I just haven't encountered anything on the PC better than the FO games (granted--need to try Planescape)

Star Wars KotOR 2 had some of the best light side / dark side choices in an RPG ever.

But yes, BG 1-2-Bhaal were RPG classics along with PS:T, FO:1-2 and KotOR 1.

Not mentioned yet: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. With the "basic" fixes-only patch from Wesp it's also one of the 10 best PC RPGs, for the art, sound, story and gameplay. You do miss out on the fun of a party though since you're fighting alone instead of with companions.

I can only think of one contemporary RPG that stood up to the amount of enjoyment I had playing BG1/BG2, and that is Witcher 2. Dragon Age was a fun game for what it is, but nowhere near the quality of the BG games--I guess I enjoyed it because we have not had any form of high adventure epic RPG for a while.

And to the poster about Might and Magic 6. I played the hell out f that game...I remember it was called Mandate of Heaven?

Also, BG1's mainscreen music theme was flipping sweet.
