I recently had an accident and at the time I was in shock so I couldn't give a clear account of what happened to the investigating officer. Naturally I'm concerned the other party might have tried to paint a certain picture, but I believe the other party is absolutely at fault.

Basically, I was going down a two way street when a big rig coming from the opposite direction made a left turn in front of me. I wasn't able to stop in time and I ended up hitting the rear tires while trying to swerve around. The entire front end of the car was smashed in.

Since I have this concern, how exactly does a traffic lawyer work in terms of payment?

Usually your insurance company fights their insurance company, and whoever was found at fault by the police loses. The fact that he was crossing your lane should count for something, are they taking you to court?

Not that I'm aware of. Instead, at the time I got the impression the investigating officer was trying to pin this sh*t on me.

He took the fact I hit the rear wheels of the trailer as a sign that I hit the truck as it was completing the turn. But in fact, I hit the rear tires because I was trying to swerve around the rear end to avoid the truck. Obviously I'm not going to go around the front. I felt like he was trying to *steer* my comments a certain way and because I was still in shock I couldn't clearly refute him.

I mentioned my swerving to him and the fact that the SUV in the fast lane (two lanes in each direction), also had to swerve around the big rig (the SUV made it) but he seemed to disregard it. Basically I'm worried my side of the story wasn't fairly represented during the investigation because I was still dazed I couldn't give a good account.
