I might get to see $5/Gal Gas as the gas prices are going.

Considering gas in the UK is over $6 per gallon, I really don't think we should complain.

EDIT: Oh, btw, I paid $3.65/gal (premium) when I filled up yesterday (Los Angeles, CA)

yeah but there you don't have to drive near as much. Public transit actually works, and isn't just for the bums with no cars as it is where I live.

Well for one thing, people in the UK make more money, their minimum wage is $9.30 a hour compared to $5.15 a hour here.

They usually have much shorter commutes

They drive smaller vehicles without the fear of getting run over by all these trucks and SUVS we have in America.

And they're gas taxes are also much steeper accounting for a good portion in that difference.

You can thank the whole Israel/Hamas/Hezbollah trifecta for the current runup on gas.

exactly, gas is purposely expensive to cut out on people driving so much and wasting so much fuel like us in the US

Apples and oranges. They pay considerably more in taxes per gallon than we do.

To the OP: you never say that the value of a traded commodity is "going up." It has gone up. The idea that an asset that has gone up is now "hot" and will continue to go up indefinitely simply because it has gone up is a fallacy sold to the world by unethical brokers to convince people to buy high.

Almost no one in the US makes minimum wage.

Not true at all. London workers are known to commute for hours each way because of the unaffordable housing costs there.

Smaller vehicles can kill too. Impacting 1 ton or 3 tons at 60 mph doesn't make that much difference to the relatively frail human body.

Nice to see you're still disconnected from reality! 🙂

We were up to $2.99 a gallon here a couple days ago, and it seems to have gone "down" to $2.95/gal now with enough time for me to fill up. This is different from the usual cycle of going up a buttload just before payday.

Well probably not many people in the UK make minimum wage either

Yes, there are commuters, but if you took the average commute from someone in the UK to someone here, it would be much shorter

Yes, smaller vehicles can kill, but id much rather be hit by a Civic than a Suburban

People in the UK pay no more for gas than we do. It's the TAXES that makes them pay more at the pump.

So no, I will not stop complaining because people in the UK allow their government to rape them more than we allow ours to rape us.

If you want to keep complaining, that's fine--it's your constitutional right. Driving cars and cheap gasoline, however, are not constitutional rights. Driving is a privilege, not a right. We live in a capitalist economy driven by supply and demand. If people are unhappy about how much they're paying for gas, drive less, get a more fuel-efficient car, take public transportation, bike, walk, etc. etc.

We are not entitled to cheap gasoline.

So are you contradicting your earlier statements then? You said people in the UK make more money because their minimum wage is higher, but now admit that it is actually market forces, not laws, that determine incomes. You discuss an "average" commute but don't cite any source (my commute here in the US btw is 5 miles). Apparently you think that because they live on an island, their commutes must be shorter, while you ignore the fact that their island is larger than all of New England plus the state of NY. And you said that smaller vehicles allow people to live "without the fear of getting run over" but now concede that they can kill too.
Amazing! Basically you were just US bashing again. The fact remains that gas prices in the UK are higher solely because the people there are getting raped on taxes.

Where did he say the people are entitled to cheap gasoline? Or complain against capitalist market forces? If anything, that would be your argument, as you appear to argue in favor of government intervention into those market forces.

How am I contradicting anything? Minimum wage laws reflect starting points for real wages. Maybe in England its different but when I lived in mainland Europe the average commute was around 2 miles. I used to walk to school since the cities there are so condensed.

WTF is your problem, when did I bash the USA? Thats right, I never did idiot.
