The D200 was a great camera about 4 years ago. But at this point you could get something better for the equivalent value of an ipad.

Nikon D3100 or D5000. While they don't offer as many pro-level features or ruggedness as the D200, they have substantially better image quality due to newer sensor, and other improvements/features like Active DLighting, which make it easier to get better photos. They are also smaller and lighter.

I've heard that at ISO 100, the D200 has better IQ than most of the newer DX bodies, but once you reach ISO 400 and up, the new bodies take a huge lead.

Yeah I'd pass on the D200 unless its for studio use only @ base ISO. The battery life was also know to be quite short and as Munky mentions, its quite a brick.
