well the GTS 250 will have more stable drivers considering how old the chipset (started with the 8800GT 512) is. There will always be more driver related problems with a newer generation of cards.

Wait for Fry's to have another deal on a 5850. They had one last week for $259.

It'll be quite a bit better then a 5700 series, its well worth the price difference.

the gts 250 when discounted/rebates involved or whatever is fine competition in terms of performance to the 5750. At the $135 he paid for a gts250 its the wrong buy. $20-30 less and you can make a fair argument.

I've used both ati cards and nvidia cards outputted to an hdtv (including widescreen crt tv's) I can't say I've ever had more or less trouble with one company.

I've used cards from both ati and nvidia, I buy what gives me the most bang for my buck. I've had tons of driver issues with both. Fact is unless your on Linux you just can't make a solid argument for either sides drivers being better then the other.

Of course, cost of ownership for the GTS250 will eventually surpass the ATI card. If the media center comp is on all the time, it probably won't take that long before it becomes a more expensive purchase.
