Ok, i had a similar thread about this before but i want to get a bit more specific. I got a job offer from IBM (they're located on the west side of connecticut in Southbury) and i'm almost positive that i'm going to move there.

I do have a few requirements:

1) Either a city or very near a city

2) Young population (i want to meet people my age!)

3) Close to work (no more than 40 minutes drive from southbury)

4) Hopefully stuff to do for young folks

What city do you suggest?

Also, just out of curiosity, what is the biggest city in connecticutt? Hartford? I would also like to travel to hartford on the weekends as well (but this isn't completely important).

new haven is probably your best bet for a city with young ppl....there are many colleges in the area yale/UNH/SCSU/QUinnipiac/ etc

hartford really isnt much fun unless its the summer when they have some good block parties.

new haven is also key because you can hop a train to manhattan quite easily and its close enough to everything......maybe im just pimping out where im from but yeah thats my take on CT.

oh and you can hop on route 34 and connect right to 84 to southbury....there might be a better way than that too.

Ok, so in your opinion then, new haven has the most young people in ct? Is it a bigger city than hartford? And what's there to do in new haven?

Not sure if it's bigger, but it's alot closer to where you will be working. Be careful as there are some pretty dumpy areas.

New Haven is loaded with stuff to do. Clubs, arts, blah blah blah.

Both New Haven and Hartford have had a rash of shootings recently. Southbury is pretty far away from me, I'm assuming you're going to be working at IBM. Really, the "cities" in CT arent your typical cities like NYC or Boston. New Haven is the closest you'll get to the diverse amount of things to do (and if you like drinking, there's tons of bars). Yale is there as well, so your young person quota is met.

Hartford really sucks. It's only good for it's few bars and the Athenaum. They've been trying to revitalize it for decades and nothing works.

Basically you've got 3 urban cities in CT. Hartford (sucks), Bridgeport (sucks harder), and New Haven (best choice)

dont get it confused my friend there is not anything good to do in CT. PERIOD.

New haven is only good because the local colleges have developed a good nightlife. Clubbing and barhopping is very good. Culturally we have yale so all the artsy fartsy stuff that comes from yalies being around is availble too.

Hartford is a bigger city but its very commercial not much going on and there are too many sketchy areas.... and the clubs/bars are less busy and not as fun IMO.

New haven is like a key interchange of all the major roadways in CT. Its convienent to get anywhere else in the state from there ie hartford, casinos, SOuth NOrwalk etc.

but the number one reason why new haven is the better choice comes down to two things

Oh, I almost forgot about Stamford... yeah, not much going on there either. I'd stick with New Haven.

I'm really confused as to how connecticutt has nothing to do as some of you are saying, don't you guys have like the highest median incomes in the nation? That's just wacky that you don't have much economic development...

I'd go Danbury. Lots of nice areas up that way, short hop across 84 to Southbury, straight shot down Route 7 to southern CT and a quick trip down 684 to Westchester or NYC.

Southberry has a lot of nice housing. You can live in Hartford which is fairly big. Danbury/Brookfield/Bethel (this is where I live) are about 40 minutes from Southbury.

Hehehe, I drive by Marcus Dairy on my way to work every day. They stopped doing 3rd sunday of every month thing (big biker hangout) since the mall complained about all the noise parking. Now they just hang out there on a regular basis but in smaller quantities.

Forgot about Stamford. I think it's the best place to live in CT, albeit very expensive. It's about 30 minute train ride from the city and has a lot of great bars/clubs. A lot of young people too. That would be my #1 choice, but it's a bit further away from Southbury.
