I may have to rethink my stance on Global Warming!

As some of you are aware I am a bit of a skeptic when it comes to whole "global warming" thing. I always said until I had some concrete proof and not a bunch of scientist that disagreed Id rethink my stance.

Well something happened this weekend that has me rethinking maybe what everyone is saying is true....:Q

Although whether man is the cause is still debateable I guess😕

Here is the situation that has changed my thoughts.

I live in the southern virginia area of the US and as a kid I can remember playing on a pond on my grandparents farm that every year would freeze solid. I mean 4 or 5 inchs thick for weeks at a time. The pond is about 2 acres and I can remember me and all of my friends riding bikes, playing hockey and even riding four wheel atvs on this pond.

Looking back I don't think that pond has frozen like that since the 80's..

But that isn't the reason.

This pond feeds down into a big swamp that use to freeze as well. Guess what they found in that swamp this weekend?

A five foot alligator😀

Now if you are not aware of the area alligators aren't native to this part of the country and I can only recall a few other recent alligator citings but they were in northeast north carolina.

Alligators being reptiles wouldn't survive long periods of cold weather, which we haven't had in a long time. If this is in fact a real, wild creature then that may prove that we are over the cold spells of my child hood and they may never return.

In what context were the alligators cited? What did law enforcement cite them with, or were they quoted in the newspaper or other report?

I'm curious!
 
Day-to-day, small-scale anecdotal evidence really shouldn't sway you either to or from the climate change camp, as far as I'm aware. You don't seem to have learned much from your previous thread.

I would tend to believe what i can see with my own eyes and observation than just following the "in" crowd because "they said so!"

Problem with anecdotal evidence is that it can be misleading. Say you flipped a coin 10 times, and it came up heads ten times in a row. Would you conclude that flipped coin always comes up heads?

You need to temper your own observations with the observations of the scientists who study this sort of thing. That isn't following the herd, it's thinking for yourself. You can draw your own conclusions based on what science is saying.


 
In my opinion the question is not whether the earth is warming up slightly the debate is A)is it because of Pollution or is it the natural cycle of the Earth that goes through periods of warming up and cooling down. I tend to believe the latter.
