I married off my daughter last nite

I never want to see/talk to another relative again in my life.

It was way more work than I ever expected. On a brighter note, she took in enough in gifts for the down payment on their condo. Not to mention 4 microwaves, stacks of other appliances, and some truly horrible gifts (a designer toilet paper holder etc). It took all 8 of the bridesmaid's cars to transport the booty. She'll be writing thank-you notes for a long time 🙂 .

Note to other wedding planners: we actually stayed on budget EXCEPT that we forgot to figure in the tips at the caterer! They include a "service charge" but they were really good and nice, we gave $100 each to the 8 people they had working there.

The newlyweds are happy. So far.

Yes, and I'm recently divorced - but I still have my 14-yr-old son at home. Maybe by the time he moves out I'll meet someone.

I chortle vigorously and beget great amusement every time I go to an expensive wedding/recption. I partake of the hilarity, food and booze and then leave a note within a soiled envelope thanking the perpetrators, I mean newlyweds, for the good time. If I'm feeling generous I will leave a fiver for them, as well. 😛

Her 5 school friends (the "gang"), most of whom she's been a bridesmaid for; her oldest closest friend; and her 2 cousins. She would've left out the cousins but it meant a big family fight. Families are like that.
edit: financial note, they all wore black dresses they already had, and the bridesmaids chipped in the $ they would've spent on dresses & accessories and gave it to the couple as a present. Quick couple thousand 🙂 . As a paying parent, I'm glad they did that. Awesome gesture.
