I have 1.5 years of market regulation (options) under my belt. I make 60k. I live in NYC. I can't move out if I want (and save at the current rate that im saving)! its so expensive. who wants to give me a job in a metro area so i can get the hell out of here?

No one can give you a job that makes up for not paying rent in a metro area. Live and home and save an additional 35% (estimate) or live on your own and not have mom and dad watching your every move.

Look at the average salary in NYC then compare them to Chicago. If your company isn't paying you enough to live in whatever city you live in, you need to go somewhere else.

NYC and Chicago are much different cities. It isn't all about rent. If you liked NYC, theres a good chance you won't like Chicago.

Parts of Brooklyn and Queens are affordable.

Roommates (of the non-family persuasion) are also a viable option.

I live in the country part of NC, make 70K a year and still live at home...... But im only doing it till I find a place/build a place of my own. I don't want to deplete my savings moving out.

Im glad I dont have to live in a big city though for my job.

Thats true but there are also many advantages to living in the city as well.. Social life, food, entertainment etc. come to mind.

Well I can drive 5-10 mins for the food part to local Mc'ds/Wendays/ Steakhouses etc.... Its 30 mins to all the malls/clubs/other entertainment venues for me. So I dont have to put up with the people/traffic and high cost either.
