You haven't made bread until you've successfully made baguette. Machines are for those who can't bake. Seriously, make it in an oven, and from scratch. It's much, much better.

ive always used an oven, though i dont bake bread terribly often. focaccia/pizza dough i do a couple of times a month; sometimes ill make a couple loaves of french bread or some brioche

I bake my own bread from time to time. I have my Grandfather's bread cook book, might have to break it out this weekend and bake some tasty bread.

ive done this....

and roasted some garlic with it til it was soft like buttah

dear god that was some good garlic bread.
 
doesn't it have a timer that you can set so that it starts baking and will finish when you wake up? i want a bread maker.. yumm.. fresh bread... is it expensive to make your own bread? how about sour dough? can you even make your own sour dough?

It does, but I didn't use it. I had delusions of enjoying toast from homemade bread with garlic on it at 2AM.
