[sung to the tune of the Dreidel song]
(hint: each link is a different picture too!)
I have a little cradle.
I made it out of wood.
And when it's dry and ready,
My cradle looks so good.
Oh cradle cradle cradle,
I made it out of wood.
Oh cradle cradle cradle,
I hope she likes it (she should).
😀
Here are some pics of a cradle I made for my sister for Christmas (she's due early March). It is solid walnut, constructed using dovetail joints and mortise and tenon construction (without any nails or screws). I used 4 coats of Danish oil and one coat of beeswax. It took awhile to get the pics because I used my dad's digital camera and stored them on his home computer. Which promptly lost the DSL connection. (Since restored after a month of screwing around by Alltel, his provider. :| )
Also, I made this Arts & Craft style bookcase for a friend. This is solid red oak with hand crafted trim and stylized "buttons" to show each shelf as attached to the carcass (frame).
EDIT: I've just been told by one of the best Carolina craftsmen that because the way we live today in places with HVAC (central air and heat), my cradle should last for 400 to 500 years (with people taking care of it). Wow. It's hard to imagine this as a family heirloom 16 generations from now in 2403!!!
Since my unemployment, one of my small pleasures is to wake up in the morning with wood.
