I made a folder on a seperate hard drive read only and am now locked out...Please read

I moved the My Documents folder to a seperate partition on my hard drive. I also hid it from other users. I had to reinstall WinXP, and now after loading everything back up I can't get to the folder. Can anyone help me change the permissions etc? I can't do it in my user account or with the Administrator. The docs in there are important and I really need them.

go to the properties of the file, go to security, and hit the advanced button, hit the owner button, make yourself the owner (as administrator), this should allow you to do whatever you want to the file, .. good luck ..

If I check the properties of the folder all I have is General, Sharing and Customize. I can't find a Security tab, or an Owners field. Thanks for taking a look though.

Select the security tab on the parent folder of the My Documents folder (root folder?).
Click on the advanced button and you should see a tickbox to reset the permission of
child objects (this on Win2000 but XP should be same).

You should also remove the old user accounts from the system.

If you cant see the security tab, it's becuase you have simple file sharing turned on ( it is the default).
In my computer, go to Tools>Folder Options>View Tab.
Scroll down the list to the bottom and uncheck the "simple file sharing (recommended) box.

Now go in there and take ownership and add your current account to the ACL.

Thank you guys so much. I kept hearing about the security tab and totally forgot about the simple file sharing checkbox. Ugh, I'm still new to 2k/xp so it's gonna take me a while to figure out all the differences.

Much appreciated guys
