Ordered a refurbed mac mini last night at around 9pm. Estimated shipping was 4-6 days with a delivery estimate of July 29th-31st. Just got an email saying the order is shipped and will be delivered the 23rd.

Awesome!

I like the fact that there is an Apple distribution center like 30 minutes from my house. If I order something and they have it in stock I will almost always have it the next business day. Or I can always just drive an hour to get it from teh Apple Store proper.

Apple loves your money. Apple clearly does not like you.

Not Apple's fault...if he got an expensive BlackBerry (like the $549 Bold) instead of the iPhone and got mugged he'd be going through the exact same grief.

Apple's warranty doesn't cover being randomly accosted by riffraff. If that were the case, think of the billions they'd have to fork out to the victims of Steve Ballmer.

So if my bike is stolen should Suzuki just fork over a new bile for me?

What if my tools are stolen out of my car, should snap-on give me new tools?

It's not a companies responsibility to replace your stolen items, that's what insurance is for.

Nah, but with every single product being as expensive as they are, Apple could have at least given a little more effort. Maybe offer him a phone immediately instead of waiting 30 days, but at the normal price. I'd say that's fair? But hey, if they truly LOVED their customers, they'd go the extra mile. They love their customers' money ;)

But how does apple know he was mugged? Maybe he is making it up in hopes of getting another iphone at a discount. From what I have witnessed in my dealings with apple, they are very willing to help people out when they can but if they break the rules for one guy then everyone is going to want a handout. And yes, they do love our money, that's the whole point of a business, to make money.

It would be good if we had a whole other thread where we could discuss the mugging...

The problem with the iPhone is how much more than a phone it is. My BB Pearl can do other crap, but outside of a phone or internet it sucks pretty hard. If somebody stole it they would be bored shitless with it after a few days. A stolen iPhone is still a bad ass PMP and even without the phone is still one of the sweetest devices ever. I could see people saying "hay apple I lost my iPhone can I get another?" If Apple offered insurance like most phone makers do. If I sell my Pearl and report it stolen it's worthless. An iPhone could still be sold for a good amount of $$$.
